19-3 DISCUSSION
This is the same 19-3 I bought at a pawn shop today.
It is a monday morning QB question---not a deal breaker or I am mad--just wondering.
Look at the two pics below.
the Two grips appear to be different color--one light one darker.
The right grip has a bronze/gold insert--the left one is silver.
The right grip is more worn--the edges of the cravings are not as crisp--generally the grip is not as well preserved.
I am thinking that it might have laid on the right side for a long time---except for the medallion colors.
Opinion.

What does the bottom look like? They appear to Congalvo Alves, looks like the grains match but a pic of the bottom would confirm if they're a pair. Still nice looking stocks. Nice revolver too. c good

The previous owner may have been a R/H cop. To me it looks like the right side of the gun is more worn than the left. I'm a lefty and my duty weapon showed more wear on the left side, due to exposure to the elements, than the right. Just a guess here but nice looking 19.

Yeah, the right hand side just looks more worn and 'dirty' to me.
You also have to remember that when they were pumping these babies out in the '70s, they didn't match the stocks, they just grabbed a left and a right and away they went.

If you don't think the stocks look good you could always pick up some others at a gun show. The gun looks great.

That is another puzzeling point.
If a gun is a shooter, you kinda expect the grips to show the same wear.
This one does not even have a turn line of the cylinder--the muzzle shows onlt the most minute wear.
I am leaning to these grips not being original to the gun and mis matched at best.
It is an interesting puzzle.

Sometimes you have to stop and reflect upon the fact that all owners are not like us! To a lot of firearms owners firearms are just tools to be used/modified as seen fit at the time. Sounds like a nice one you have there, find a set of stocks that you like and have at it, enjoy.

No mystery or puzzle here, according to your description, 2 different grips, period. For whatever reason, someone dressed it up. Shoot it and have some fun...
Happy New Year

William, your model 19 spent some time in a holster going to work everyday. I went through three sets of grips on my 19 when I was in the patrol division. They were always getting banged on door frames, car doors, the ground, and other assorted objects.
Enjoy that guy for what it is.

If it was carried in a holster some, it wasn't much. It does not indicate that it was fired much, due to the lack of a turn line. nice find.

Well--it is a mystery of course.
My thoughts are that these were some grips from another source--maybe the original were smaller--and put on and it was a bedside gun.
Who knows---only the Shadow knows ( I just could not resist saying that ).
I sure do like it---have not shot it--too dang cold fer me--and first observation is it is lighter than I like a gun.
Now---boys don't even think that I suggesting that I want to sell it.
Blessings
