Question .38 Special CTG Information

I have a S&W .38 Special CTG, the # at the bottom of the handle is D927445, it has a 4 inch barrel, I've attached a picture as well. I would like any information anyone may have on this model.

Also, for whatever reason I am not very accurate with this handgun. I tend to shoot very high but on line with it. My shooting buddies are accurate with it without compensating. I'm accurate with our wide variety of other handguns. We have determined that it's not the gun and it doesn't appear to be me, but a combination of me and this particular gun. It's been suggested that I try a different hand grip. Just looking for any suggestions that will help....Thanks!!!!

Default ctg is short for cartridge

your 4" heavy barrel model 10 was made in 1976-77.
try resting your wrists on something solid, but forgiving, like a rolled up towel or a couple of books when you shoot.
i think you might be flinching.
let one of your friends load only 3 cartridges in the gun so you do not know if you are pulling the trigger on a live round or an empty chamber.
shoot at the target and have them tell you how bad you flinch when the gun doesn't fire.
welcome to a great forum!

You have a classic cop gun, the heavy barrel Model 10. My thought about your shooting problems is the grip doesn't fit your hand. You should add a filler in the space between the rear of the trigger guard and front of the grip frame. You can do this with a Tyler grip adapter or a set of larger magnum grips,

You should see MOD 10-6 stamped on the yolk recess (on the frame, under the barrel with the cylinder out). For shooting purposes, a set of rubber stocks (Hogue, Pachmayr, Uncle Mike's - find which ones seem to fit your hand best) may help with the high grouping. Enjoy!

I have a 10-6 as well, and I was wondering if it would handle +p ammo, or do I need to stick to strictly standard loads?

Are you shooting high in double and single action? When you dry fire are you getting any muzzle movement? If not and it is shooting high in both single and double action -- my vote goes with the change your grips crowd. As the gun is going off, it is twisting up in your hand.
