Default model 65-1 help

I managed to pick up a 65-1 today. 4" square butt. Gun was nice and it was a model I did not own due to my N frame addiction. Knowing the greatness of the 65 i couldnt go home without it. To cut to the chase i have noticed a very slight bulge in that big ol thick barrel. It is only on the bottom of the barrel and is very slight from about the 8 o clock to 4 o clock position. I have fired the gun with no ill effects and even dug out some old 357 stuff that was loaded before everything got watered down. Accuracy seems to be less than par from what i have been led to believe these guns are capable of all these years. My question being, first of all are rhe rear sights cut into the frame based on the barrels originally on these fixed sight revolers, secondly would the slight bulge about 1" past the forcing cone affect accuracy or not and should i bother with repairing it, lastly does anyone have a barrel for one? This gun is nice and locks up like a new one and has no endshake. I have a 4" found for about $50 and various 3" for three times that amount. Any ideas would be great. For the record i have no fear firing this gun. Maybe i should but i cant see this barrel busting. Just cant seem to get it to group well with jacketed or swc's. Seems that mid 80's wcc 38's group the best but none of them shoot to point of aim.

Yep, sounds like your classic bulged barrel. If you can't get it to group well, then there's your answer on ill effects. If it were mine, I'd go ahead and get a barrel, especially if the rest of the gun is in great shape. Your choice if you want to go 3" or 4... I had a 3" installed in a Model 64 a couple years back and I'm very happy with the result. I spent $165 on the barrel and another $30 or $40 to have a gunsmith install it. Where did you find barrels, BTW.... GB? $120 for a 3" is great, I'd love to get another!
Almost forgot: the rear sight is "generic" so any barrel for a K-frame will work. The height of the front sight is the adjustment point.

Where do you get a 3 inch barrel and find a GS to install?

Google is your friend!!
Try GunBroker. There is usually at least one. Ebay is another. Most reputable gunsmiths will do a barrel swap, which includes setting the barrel-cylinder gap.
