CAI response - Gun Show Mod36-1 W/Import Mark
Picked up this nice solid 3inch Model 36. Lock up is tight and finish is very good with holster wear on muzzle. Would it be worth asking for documentation or just knowing it was sent out of the country and then returned. Import mark is CAI Georgia VT.

You'd have to answer your question.
How bad do you want to know?

If the gun locks up tight and is in really decent shape I wouldn't worry about it being imported. I own 4 different Sig's that were imported that we Swiss and German police trade in's. These have all been excellent shooters and well worth the money. They had slight muzzle wear from being carried but were shot very little and the insides looked like new. In fact a P228 9mm is my concealed carry gun as I've tested it and trust it that much.

Curiosity killed the cat, I would want to know it's history. Regardless that is one fine find. Enjoy.

It MAY yield a $50+ bonus depending on it's history. I would get one.

Why don't you contact Century Arms, International and see if the can provide any information? They have a web site where you can ask questions.

If you get the historical letter, you'll probably find it went to a gun distributor (either domestic or foreign), and that's about it.

I agree with Alan, I think you would be wasting you money. The date and the distributor is about all it's going to tell you.

This is the info I got back from CAI (at least I got a reply!). Sounds like it might have been top secret
'All I can show is that we received it back in 08/2004 from a place within the US and we sold it 07/2005'

<Insert theme from Mission Impossible> 2005… that’s about the time we were sparring with China over Taiwan. It sounds like the CIA shipped it home thru CAI for a classified operative who didn’t want to leave it behind and the history is restricted on a NTK basis. I guess you don’t need to know. Nice gun anywho!
