Default Inspired by the Are you an original owner thread, well kinda in away?

After reading the "Are you an original owner of P&R guns" thread I kinda fall short, a little. I didnt want to add this post to the thread because well I am not really the original owner. I do remember being in the store when they were bought and had them almost my whole life...

My parents bought them

I was still kinda young, and I guess they were too.

Both my parents are long gone but I still have the guns and paper work. I can still remember my mom not happy about spending so much money on them. We had a weekly grocery budget at that time so money wasn't abundant at this time. Anyhow, he already had a S&W 22 revolver and the guys he worked at the factory with had 36s and 37s, so he wanted the 36.

Shortly after he got involved with the local Sheriffs office and had a volunteer position with them. So in order to be with them you needed the N frame 357 and the 28 was bought.

I wish I had more of the uniform and I did have the Stetson he wore, most of it probably tossed out during moves and clean outs. The belt isnt looking so good these days. It had to be dyed brown as all that could be bought local was black. I can remember him doing it it was spray dye.

After a few years my dads work situation changed and he was forced to resign from the Sheriffs office but I still remember him in his uniform and some of the other guys that were involved at the time.

I just realized that that was forty years ago, wow

So for me the road of life has brought me back to guns and S&Ws and these memories and pieces are part of why I am here on the forum.

I tried to take some decent pics and highlight different parts. Its hard to get a clear pic of papers and the metal.

So are you almost the original owner of your P&R guns?

excellent story, those guns are really keepsakes for you.
i remember when i started in police work we had to buy our own gun, i bought a heavy barrel model 10 and a model 36 and i do not still have either, i wish i did. i also remeber we had volunteer police officers also who did not get paid. i worked the job 33 years and saw lots of changes, the first gunfight i was in i was carring a s&w model 28.

What a great post. It is just wonderful that you have all those fine weapons as keepsakes. Boxes, paperwork, holsters, patches. Really a fine post. Thanks for sharing. I have my Grandfathers Belgium Double. Still shoot it with light loads. Don't ever remember any paperwork, etc. Wish I did know what he paid for it in the 20's. No, it is not damascus I only shoot light loads in 12 ga.

Regards

Bill

Great story, wheelgun28..... That's what the "Original owner of a P&R S&W" thread is all about. Hearing from others with a complete history of these handguns from day one and the circumstances of how and why they were acquired provides a look at the excitement related to those purchases. I believe posts like yours are of interest to all of us.

These posts can bring back such great family memories (perhaps in some instances some not so great ones) and remind us of a heritage we all hope will last forever...

I hope others will continue to respond to these threads in a quest to add a personal historical touch to our S&W handgun ownership...
