Default S &W 48-4 round butt

I have a newly acquired 48-2 (4" .22 Magnum )that I thought was going to have a square butt and that I would be able to easily find original target grips in wood to replace the Hogues on it. I find it is a round butt and have not seen wood target grips for it. Am I out of luck? I no not want the available Magna service grips.

Any info would help.

Interesting that you found a round butt model 48 - but any round butt K frame grips should fit it. I bet someone here would take it off your hands if you wanted to hold out for the square butt.

The Model 48-2 is a K frame but according to the SCSW it was made in square butt only from 1961 to 1966 .
Im guessing someone converted it to roundbutt ?

Several grip companies make RB to SB conversion grips.
Altamont
Altamont - Pistol Grips
Badger
Smith & Wesson Pistol Grips
Gungripsupply
Gun Grips for Sale| Colt 1911, Python and Woodsman - Exotic and Beretta Wood |Revolver and Handgun Grips
Eagle

Kelley
Smith and Wesson Double Action

The other option is to buy or make a filler plug for regular SB grips.

No, I have seen 2 RB Model 48's at guns shows and they are pretty darn rare in my book. Nice find. Shouldn't be too hard to find some Targets for it. How about a few pics!

Can you post a picture of it when you get a chance?
Especially would like to see the back strap if it is grooved or smooth.

I double checked the Standard Catalog and no mention is made of a round butt Model 48.
Very interesting gun,

Edited,
I just noticed while the body of the text reads its a 48-2 the title reads 48-4.
Is this gun a stainless steel gun or blued steel?
If it is stainless its a Model 648.

The gun is a model 48-4 and the rear of the grip is smooth and the serial number on the heel is the same as the one on the frame. serial number is 27K89XX. Don't see how someone could change the grip, the blueing matches throuout except there is a lot of wear on the rear of the grip only, rest of gun is perfect.
