Default Model 27 couple questions

What would a Model 27 with 3.5" barrel be worth if it was a re finish nickel, assuming it was orginally nickel and done correctly. It looks to be a older re finish. The serial number is N1631XX what year would that be shipped in. Thanks

Based on a current gb listing...somewhere north of $600 it would seem.

Serial number range is 1973....but may have shipped later.

And speaking of 27 pricing...and since I just happened to check my gb "watch" list...have prices across the board gone up a good bit in recent months? I tend to pursue other interests periodically and don't follow pricing very closely until I consider a purchase or get a case of "gotta'have'it". I know there has been an effort to try to expand the S&W collector group (include myself) but I'm starting to think there may be too many of us! How about some of you fellas look into winchesters or maybe scrapbooking and stay off the auction sites for a coupla days.

In all seriousness, at the last show I went to...maybe two months ago. I was looking at a mid-seventies 6" patrolman in very good shape. Not NIB, but a real nice 28-2. $850 tag. JUST MARKED DOWN FROM $900 and, I quote, "priced to move it right now." I moved it back to the table. Anyway, no box or tools...or letter indicating it was once the gun that John Wayne used to stop a robbery. Makes me think that even though they aren't selling anywhere near that...maybe the n frame has ratcheted up another 100 bucks or so in the past 6 months. Thoughts?

Welcome to my world neighbor. Those are everyday Indiana prices. That's why I buy on G-broker.

Crabtree, thanks for the information. I bid on one sometime ago that was in very good condition and had to bail out at around 800. It had a couple of defects still pretty nice and had presentation grips.

I feel your pain. I have dabbled in the Colt world for a little while and it hurts over there!

The GB gun I referenced was posted here on the forum last week. I was watching the listing for curiosity sake. It's not worth the $600 to me but it's obviously worth that to someone and who knows what it will ultimately sell for as there were still a couple of days remaining in the auction. I prefer the 5" barrel on the 27 myself. I'd love to find a nice original 3.5" in the $750 range but I'm starting to think that may not happen. Wish I could go back in time. I think I got into this S&W thing about a decade too late. Good luck with your purchase...

I think a refinished 27 is worth about $350. Everybody else probably thinks $600.

You are probably closer to being right. But someone will buy it.

There are plenty of original finish 27's around to pay that much for one that has been refinished.

The Model 27-2 in 3.5 have been a very hot item the past two years and they sell for high dollars if in great shape. Any refinished S&W should cost considerably less then even one with wear that has not been refinished.

I bought a 3.5 inch 27 no dash, 4 screw, in original nickel a couple of years back. It had the blue pinned-on sight (like used to be on the front of this forum) and walnut diamond target stocks that I thought were period correct but don't think were original to the gun. Standard trigger not target, case colors worn, some light surface scratches on the nickel but otherwise nickel all good. Asking price was 850. I did a partial trade but basically paid asking price. Didn't feel like a genius at the time, but am feeling better about it now.....

I paid 800 locally for a very nice 3.5" blue 27-2. I would have paid anywhere under $1000 for the right one. If it were a Pre-27 for that price in that condition, my hand would have Bob Munden'd to my wallet.

Default .357 COMBAT MAGNUM...2.5 Inch, P&R...1974, AS NEW!

The price of almost any classic revolver had gone through the roof in the last 2 -3 years. Right now the above revolver is at $761.00 with four hours until the auction closes. I dropped out at $631.00. I refused to pay $200.00 for the twin to that revolved in 1974. This forum really needs a kick me icon.

I know its not a collectable because of the re finish , and the seller does state that it is a shooter grade. But it looks like the hammer and trigger is nickeled as well. It should be case hardened should it not? That just kind of put me out of the mood on this one. I bet if the forum had a kick me button it would be the most used button on here. LOL

You are just being smart. To me nothing looks worse than a nickeled hammer and trigger.
