anybody ever heard of these guys,TNT ARMS Co., just left a gunshow and a fella there had a heavily customized mod. 15 . Heavy barrel, beam toprail sight , and the action was smooth as silk ,said it was used for police competion . He said he had it for sometime himself and had bought it in Tenn. with 4 other guns . Custom holster to fit the huge barrel and sights , He was asking 795.00 for it . What do you think?

I have no idea what its worth but about 30 years ago TNT built a PPC on a model 10 for me the gun was fantastic smooth and accurate. Used to take it with me when I traveled and shot informally with a few friends once a week for several years looser bought dinner, I never bought dinner.
I think the name of the shops owner was John Toll not sure of spelling or what ever happened to TNT.

Thank you , Len , can you remember what you had paid for the work . Your description sounds spot on for what i was looking at , i ask if it was a mod. 10 , but he told me it was a mod. 15 . If he still has it when i call him i'll look closer under the crane . Anyone else feel free to comment please , thanks agian , Len . (ps he did say it was used for PPC )
Its been too long to accurately remember what it cost when I say 30 years it may have been longer it had a rib with sights and a custom bull barrel looked like a typical PPC gun of its era. I think the shop was in the north east and I probably found TNT through one of the gun magazines.
Well, I am new to the S&W forums, and this is an old thread I am trying to respond to. Mostly because I have a specific interest in the topic. T-N-T Arms was in North Conway NH, and owned by a fellow named John Towle. John was a machinist and liked to tinker with guns. He did do PPC guns using S&W frames, and he also built some very radical bolt action pistols for silouhette shooting. He built many on the Remington XP 100 frame and the Wichita(sp) bolt action receiver. I had him modify a model 15 combat masterpiece for me in 1978. He took off the standard 4" bbl, and replaced it with a 1.2 inch Douglas premium bbl that he milled the cylinder latch into. The barrel was 6 inches long, and had a full length Bomar rib running down the length of the BBl and backstrap. He polished the serrations off the trigger, and all the case hardening off the hammer, till they looked nickeled. He liked to bob or semibob the hammers to increase the lock time. He then polished out all the components of the trigger which resulted in the slickest action you could imagine. The leaf spring was replaced with a coil spring. Mine will shoot about 1 1/4 inch groups from a rest at 50 yards, and would no doubt do better if I were better. You could get a round bbl, or slab sided, carbon or stainless. I have tried to find out more about the company, because i have one of the guns, and have never seen another one. They are very unique and accurate. I think someone asked in this thread about cost, and as I recall, it was about 300.00, but of course you needed to supply a gun to start with. I forget what my model 15 cost in the early 70's but I might guess 125.00??? I know I have model 17-3 that was made in 68, that says 110.00 on the box. I know this answer is from a question asked a long time ago, but I just thought I would offer what i could. Oh, I learned about the company because his products made the front cover of Gun World Magazine.
