These grips look comfortable with the finger grooves but how are they really?
Anyone tried them and didn't like anything about them?
How secure are they with just a butt screw, do they move, twist, wiggle on the frame? Factory wood grips sandwich the frame and are secured with a pin and screw. These Hogue one piece grips just slip over the frame so I don't see how they can work as well.

They fit fine and they are very secure, perhaps more so than some other grips. They do fit my hand very well, and are some of the best grips ever made. However, they may not fit your hand as well. Try some at the range or in your local gun store.

For many years I used a Tyler grip adapter on the standard grips and this filled my hand just fine. Then I discovered the Hogue grips and found them to do everything better. I have mounted Hogue soft grips on many of my Smiths including J and N frame guns. They just work great. If you try them once you will be sold.

I have them on my GP100's, my SP101, and I have one on order for my Model 10 round butt. I took the rubber Hogue off my 629 only because I wanted to add a good looking Ahrends grip to it that both looks good, fits good, and fits my hand. I could have ordered a Hogue for it, but I can't find a place that sells them new where you see what you are getting before you buy it. All my wood Hogues save for one have been bought used with pics showing them. The one I ordered I wouldn't have bought since I don't care one bit for the grain pattern in the wood, but I kept it anyways. I have that K frame round butt coming to me from Hogueauction.com but they don't list many there unless they are defects or maybe orders that fall through. I wish they would hurry up and come in already.

I tried Hogue grips on my K frames, and found the were very comfortable, albeit a little too big for my tastes. The did keep my middle knuckle from being whacked to pieces by the trigger guard. I finally changed to Pachmayr grips, which look a little better on the guns, in my humble opinion only. I used Hogues on my 3913 and Beretta 92, which I liked very much. I tried a Hogue Handall Hybrid on my M&P9, but eventually stippled the factory grips and frame. Again, the Hogues had a little too much palm swell for my liking, although they were very comfortable otherwise.

I love the Hogue fancy wood finger groove grips on my K & N frame Smiths and also Rugers. Register at the Hogue Auction site and you can get 'cosmetic seconds' at very good prices. Most of those 'seconds' are just slightly odd grain or a small finish blotch. Save 50 to 65% off the cost!!

Very comfortable and very secure.

I use them on my range and competition 4 inch K-frames. They are like the old Rogers grips, only rubber instead of Franzenite.

The only "complaint" I can think of is that they are more "sticky".....or less "slick" than Pacmayrs on cover garments. Thats why I use Pachmayr Gripps on my 4 inch K-frame carry guns.

My 2.5 inch K-frames get Hogue Bantams. Regards 18DAI

Love the feel of the rubber Hogues on all my revolvers.
I bought two 686's yers back a 4" and a 2.5" Both of these revolvers had a round grip frame. Both came with rubber Hogues. The 2.5" came with what they called the round grip and the 4" had what they call a round to square conversion. Both looked pretty much the same at first glance but the round grips has a very subtle reconfiguring at the base that was noticeabiy more comfortable to me to hold and shoot.
On the square butt L & K frames, I use the magnas and tyler for that retro look, but on any round butt Smith I own, I use the Hogue round grip. I keep saying that one day when I get some spare change, I'm gonns but enough Wooden Hogues (camo Lamo ) to outfit all my stainless Smiths. But every time I get the money, I do something stupid like buy another gun.

My sons and I use the Hogue monogrip on all our S&W's they fit our hands very well. They are very secure and fit the gun well. Just realize that everyones hand is different and you have to use the grip that fit your hands regardless of what we all say. ;)

Fit is everything

I bought my first set of Hogues the first year they came out with the wooden ones at the NPRC in Des Moines. Several co-workers had the earlier hard nylon ones, but they never seemed just right. The wooden ones were just slightly different, and that made the fit perfect (for me). I used them until we transitioned to autos, and they still adorn my old service revolver. Never had any problem with fit or finish. When ever we had recruits with grip issues, I would let them try mine for fit. It was a good intermediate fit for many, as Pachmayrs were often too big or blocky. If the grooves fit your hand, they make a repeatable grip natural at the draw; if they don't fit your hand, they'll be a problem. I ended up buying several more pair for carry guns.

I like the Hogue's. I put a set of Pau Ferro grips on my 686 back in the mid 80's and have never switched them. I have Hogue finger groove "factory furnished" on a 36-6 and on a Mod 29-3 Classic hunter. I've never had one shift. You do need to remove the "positioning pin" from the revolver, not difficult, just drift it out.

Hands come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, so grip preferences vary. Hogues fit my hand like they were made just for me. The finger grooves, palm swell, and thickness are great. Fit and finish has always been excellent, and they are quite secure on the gun. The wooden and rubber ones are slightly different in size, so try and see what works better for you.

I got a set of Hogue Bantams for this M547 which was bruising my fingers with the trigger guard:

I liked them so much I got some for my 686P (same grip size)

and for my M19 2-1/2 (sorry, no pix)

Hogue works for me. Here's a set on a 65.

I shoot the heaviest home loads with these and they are comfortable - to say the least. This roscoe came with Ahrends and nice ones at that, but they didn't fit my hand and tore the hyde off my thumb. Different hands, different fit.

Here's another K frame, a 13 and these grips are fantastic too.

N frames, but the grips - Hogue.

I prefer the look and feel of Pachmayr Grippers. I don't like the pebble grain on Hogue. Personal preference.

The very first thing I do when I buy any revolver is install a set of wooden Hogues. I've been using them since the early eighties with no problems. J, K, L, and N-frames, I put them on everything and think for looks, feel, and pointability there is nothing like them!

What's the purpose of the striped butt cap like the ones you have. I see some on their web site but cannot make out on the pictures what its for. Is it a separate piece of wood attached to the stock? It almost looks as though it's a little wider on the cap area but it's hard to tell by the pictures. I did a dealer search and there none in my area, so trying them in person is out of the question.

I have used Hogues for some years now after not being able to find Pachmayr Combat Professionals. The Hogues are very comfortable.
