Default S&W model 34 production date

I have what I think is a model 34 S&W .22 long rifle, with serial number 02485 (no model number on the revolver). It has a small, round grip with a diamond on it. I am interested in dating the gun, which I purchased new. Except for a little holster wear, it is in excellent condition. I would like to pass it on to my son, and would like to tell him its approximate age. Thanks for any help with this. Hedley

Are you taking the number off the butt of the grip frame? That number you gave looks more like an assembly number than a serial number.

22/32 Kit gun or Pre-model 34 was produced from 1953 to 1957 at which time they stamped them M-34. The zero in your serial number does not look right.

Likely 1973 for the early SN and 1975 for the later.

Come back around soon...it's been 5 1/2 years since you became a member and your first post!
