Default Recently acquired a Model 29-2 (Nickel; w/ Box)

Just picked it up.
Wanted to see if anyone could dig up any information on Serial No. N74781?

6.5' barrel
Target hammer
Drilled/tapped for scope
Cyclinder is numbered
Custom target trigger (non-factory i think....)
Nickel Finish
VERY nice Trigger Job done by a gunsmith who knew what he was doing.
And a beautiful Blue Felt Presentation Box.

Just interested in a date of manufacture, thanks a lot guys!

Welcome to the Forum.
That number dates to late 1972 or early 1973.

I have one close in s/n (also nickel) that was shipped in March 1973. The nickel front sight blade has been replaced with a blue one and the original stocks were most likely checked. Like all cases of this type, it has been recovered.

All in all, a great looking, vintage 29-2.

Doc,

Thankfully the seller was very upfront and honest with me about the custom mods that were done with this revolver. I got what I think was a very good price and I intend to let this little beauty get plenty of time on my hip out on the ranch.

The Nickel is in fantastic condition, so much so that I went on the hunt for any sort of refinishing mark and could not find one. From my young and somewhat limited knowledge I think it's either original or went back to the factory for a re-nickel.

I just want to say that it's thanks to this forum that I've been able to learn so much about S&W revolvers and was able to purchase this fine specimen of what I consider a "Golden Age" Smith.

Cheers!
