19-2 Gunshow Find.
Hey Folks,
Found this one lurking around the local gun show this morning. The guy selling it was the original owner and had taken pretty good care of it.Original box , paperwork and unopened tools. I believe also the original grips. The serial # is K775xxx . I am guessing , but I think that puts it around 1967???He thinks he bought it in 68. One thing that happened around this time was the phazing out of the diamond targets and this one doesnt have them. I think this gun could have went either way on the grips , just a toss up at that time. Wish it woulda had the diamonds tho. Anyone else have one with a close serial # let me know if you got the diamonds or the checkered. I could'nt let this one go at $450. Had to bring it home. Very light trigger on this ole girl too.

Hey Twig, that is a very fine looking model 19. I was at a gun show today also. I saw alot of older Smith's, some very nice looking ones, but I am sad to say I came home empty handed. I need to do some more research on the prices. Again, nice gun...Ray

K775xxx = 1967.
SN's ran from K715997 to K779162 that year.

You did very well on the purchase.
If you decide that you don't like those grips, just let me know.
I'm looking for those for one of my model 19's.

Good score! I have a 19-2, SN K688xxx. I am not the original owner, got it from a pawn shop, so cannot say for absolute sure, but it did not come with the diamond grips.

Very nice 19-2 and great price,
You should ask Chris SNW19 and post the gun on the "Ultimate Model 19 thread".
I am guessing you will find out the grips have unfortunately been changed.
Model 19-2's have diamond target grips and 19-3 have non diamond targets.
The K frame dash 2 guns that came with Magna grips are a different story.

That is one fine looking 19 you have there. I would love to have one in that length. Happy shooting!

Being one that has ( and still is) searched long and hard for 1967 Model 19's, yours would be 1968 and maybe even late '68 so the stocks could be correct.
Yours is pretty close to when the -3 change started to show up on the 19-2's so I am curious which one yours has.
From a previous post:
K-frame -2 rear sight leaf screw, directly over the barrel/cylinder gap.
K-frame -3 rear sight leaf screw, right over the forcing cone.
(Yeah, I know the screw is loose on the -2. the factory fit it so well, you can't see there is one unless you back it out. )

You did VERY well on that purchase. They are among my favorites. The blueing on the early 19's is beautiful. I paid somewhat less than you did for my first one years ago,but the next cost me $600 and I was happy to pay it! Both have all the goodies and the one on the bottom, the higher priced one, is ANIB.

Hi,
Thank You for the info! Mine has the -2 configuration. The rear sight screw is located directly over the cylinder gap. I am afraid I cannot get you a picture of mine as my camera skills are not nearly as good as yours. I tried several times and even on macro setting failed to get a good clear picture.

Those are super nice!!
Wish mine was sporting a set of those grips. Those are two very fine S&W's. You guys and your camera skills make me realize I have some work to do with mine. Great pictures!!

Twig,
I wouldnt kick your grips outta bed for eatin crackers....
The early non diamond GA targets have some of the best grain of any of the S&W grips I have seen.
While I occasionally see Diamond target GA's the majority I find seem to be dark Walnut or Rosewood.
