Default Model 58 nickel ANIB 1977 vintage ?

What would the forum members' opinion be. A straight across trade towards a pinned ,older .45 ACP (Model 25-2, 1955 etc) similar condition box and goodies. Deal or no deal?

I personally would go for the 58. Rare revolver that packs a punch or load it down for plinking. I am biased as the .41 mag is my favorite round and I own a 58. Had a nickel model like the one your talking about and sold it CHEAP back in 85. Got another one last year in 95% condition and it's one of my house weapons, loaded with 210 gr. Speer Gold Dots.

If Fugate had it the 58 would sell for $1300.00 and people actually pay his prices. I refuse to as every one he has listed seem to be advertised as ANIB and way overpriced IMO.

No contest, the 58 is more rare than a 25-2.....the 58's are a wonderful breed...I have a first year nickel 58 that is one of my all time favorites.

Be sure to post some photos when you get it home.

In my opinion, M58 is the more rare piece. But, I like .41 mags so it is hard for me to be objective.

I like them both, but if you'll be shooting the model 58 ammo will be harder to find than .45 ACP. If it will stay NIB it sounds like at least an even trade.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll keep my 58, save up, and just look for and buy a .45 ACP. Which would be the best model to keep an eye out for? Older pinned model for sure. I ran across 60+ boxes of .45 ACP Remington factory ammo at a garage sale last summer for $2.00 a box. That deal got me thinking about a .45 revolver as I do have a Colt Gold Cup as a shooter.

Thanks,
Ischia

The 58 if it's trully ANIB with all the goodies is worth more than a 25-2 in similar condition . While I've seen both with +$1000 asking prices the 58's change hands while the 25-2's don't . The 25's with oversized throats are common & getting one to shoot accurately can be a challange . Not so with the 58 . ANIB 58's complete packages from a " collector " dealer are between $ 1200 to $1500 asking price . David Carroll has 1 asking $1200 & Fugate has 2 asking $1500 . Finding a 25-2 in pristine condition is much easier than finding a like condition 58 .

I talked to Mr. Carroll once I looked at his catalog since I was in the market for a 58. Fugate has it now and marked it up from 1200 to 1500.

Regards,

Ed

Excellent decision sir! Here's my baby and it's staying. The magnas are in fantastic condition so slapped a set of full coverage Pacs on them to save wear on the magnas and get a better grip for them Gold Dots. It hits to POI with almost every load I shoot through it and will do a good 3-4" group at 25 yards with the smaller, fixed sights.

Next to it's tiny 34 brother.

I called Fugate and they sold them both, go figure. 1500.00 must not be out of line.
