Default Cleaning trigger and hammer? How to protect in sweaty environments?

What's the best way to clean up the trigger and hammer on a 28-2? See the brown trigger and hammer below:

Additionally, what's the best way to protect this gun from my sweat during the warmer months? I'm in South Louisiana and I'd like to take good care of this gun when wearing it. I've even soaked holsters with sweat.

Here's maybe a better picture showing the trigger. This was before I cleaned a little with oil (and changed the grips).

Looks like regular color case hardening to me. It should be be motled colored red, brown, purple and blue all mixed with no pattern. It colors that way from the hardening process.
I use Renaissance wax. Johnson's paste floor wax (at Lowes) also works pretty good too.

It is, but it looks a little too brown. The picture really doesn't show it.

Thanks, for the tip on the wax!

In the pictures the color looks like the old case hardening S&W used. If you don't want to use wax, a regular wipe down with some of the better gun oils with teflon will keep the moisture from doing it's damage.

Best one I've found is Rem Oil with Teflon spray @ Wally World.

I would really like to protect it as much as possible. I figure the wax would do the best job with protection.... Let me know if I'm wrong.

I too live in Louisiana, bought a model 15 sometime back that had light rust in the grooving on the trigger and checkering on the hammer. Used a bore brush with oil to clean the grooves and a brass brush to clean the checkering. Cleaned with hoppe's and patches and lightly dampened patch with clp to protect against further rust. So far so good. Hope this helps. Frank
