Default 2nd cleaning nickle 27-2

This 1967 6" nickle 27-2 was the filthiest gun I've ever acquired.

This was a s clean as I got the front of the cylinder the first time I cleaned it using CLP cleaner and brass wool.

This was today using a lead removing cloth by Birchwood.
I am totally impressed with this lead removing cloth.

I nice polish job with Flitz and a coat Renaissance wax and it looks brand new.

Excellent. I have a 4" nickeled M-27, a well polished nickeled gun is a joy to behold.

Hoppe's and nickle don't go that well together. DON'T soak nickel in Hoppe's.

Thanks CH4.

The first time I saw it I passed. The second time I took it because it is an "S" prefix.

Glad I took it. It did clean up real nice.

I bought CLP cleaner lubricant preservative for the nickle guns.

The Birchwood lead cleaning cloth is awesome.

Just be careful with that lead cleaning cloth. It will remove bluing and probably isn't the greatest on Nickle either. It's great on Stainless.

For a year I visited mine weekly at the Reno Cabelas. It wasn't until some well-meaning members urged (pushed) me to snag it. Didn’t know the FHP was that limited. Glad I listened.

I'd never use it on a blue gun. I was warned before I bought the cloth.
The label says its safe on nickle and it did an awesome job on mine.
I was careful in the beginning to make sure it was damaging the finish and I got pretty aggressive with it on the front of that cylinder.

First I've heard of the Birchwood lead cloth. I'll try it on some of my stainless guns. Thanks, and FANTASTIC revolver!

You're lucky that Reno Cabelas doesn't sell to us poor souls in CA. Saw that a few times on my trips to the gun shows and tried to figure out how to get it. Ended up with a Colt SAA instead.

Congratulations -

I'm picking up a nickel Model 57 this weekend. Glad to know the Flitz works fine. I was concerned I might end up with some scratching.

I wanted it, but thought $1250 for a used cop gun was too much; apparently not when it comes to the 500 FHP 27s. I finally talked em down to $1050. After BP took over, they don’t negotiate as freely.
Glad I have it now.

This one has been repeated so often and so long that it has become a truism -- but that does not mean it's true.

Truth is, Hoppes might damage a gun that has nickel deposited over a copper base -- but this is a method of plating that S&W has never used.

Hoppes will not damage a factory-nickeled S&W.

Gentlemen , please be very careful when using Flitz . You must remember that the nickel finish is very very thin , almost like it was applied with a paint brush . Flitz , with very little effort will rub through the nickel , leaving an ugly bare spot . Rubiranch , that is a very nice looking 27 , " now " . Regards, Paul

I'm glad you got it too. I have 3 cop guns. 2 belonged to my brother and the other one belonged to a UHP.

I recently sold my M68-2 CHP because it was a .38.

This 6" was going up for sale but after cleaning and admiring it yesterday I'm having 2nd thoughts.

Its my only nickle, its a 6" "S" prefix 27-2. I might have to hang on to it...........

And its very nice looking.....

Thanks Paul. I wish I had pictures before I ever cleaned it at all.

It was black all around the hammer and bad around the end of the barrel. It entire gun was pretty bad.

I have more time into cleaning this one than any of my other guns.

I'm not very aggressive with the cleaners but I did get pretty aggressive with the Birchwood lead removing cloth there on the front of the cylinder.

I didn't think it would ever come clean.

As dirty as it was makes me think it is a GREAT shooter.

I might even shoot it one day myself. LOL

Very pertey revolver. I have one just like it. Nickel can be brought back to as new if you employ patience and the right technique. Seems you figured that out.

I use simi chrome polish if the nickel is cloudy. After it’s cleaned up I use fritz to maintain the shine. Save the used simi chrome polish for the blued guns it brings out the blue luster again. Simi chrome polish works good on stainless too. Nickel finish looks so cool. S&W 27-2 6” barrel.

Nickel guns rock get u some.
