TV Guns
I'll put this post here since I know I'm among friends.
Up until the Wonder 9 revolution, on TV or in the movies, bad guys always carried semi-auto pistols and the good guys carried revolvers, now it seems they have reversed. I wonder why?????

Or the lead good guy carried a 1911 or pocket hammerless and the local yokel carried the revolver.

I suspect for the same reason the "good guy" wore a white hat. Instant recognition.

Only Theo Kojack could shoot the bad guy off the top of a 10 story building with a J frame......

Probably because in those days, America cops all carried revolvers, and the cops were good guys.
So, to make your hero identifiable as a good guy, he carried a revolver.

Cannon could do it too, and then cook a delicious meal! Don't forget McGarrett either. After shooting the bad guy and making a little anti gun speech, he'd order Danno to "book im".
When watching old shows, I've noticed the same thing as the OP. The good guys always used a revolver of some kind and the bad guys used some sort of semi auto.
I think that up until the late 1980s, the revolver was so ubiquitous among real cops that the public expected TV cops to carry them too. Now of course the bad guys have a Mac 10 and the good guy shoots him with the semi auto du jour.
