Default Ooops... Highway Patrolman followed me home

Been looking for an HP for some time and finally found one in good shape, turned out to be a lot newer than I thought, late '70's. That gave me a scare yesterday when there was no "H" on the cylinder, thanks guys for talking me down. But that is part of the "fun" with internet buying and learning here. I'm sure I paid $50 too much, oh well. The HP stamping on the barrel is light on the bottom and not a full strike. Not sure it has been fired much if at all.

Anyway here it is. Still fumbling with the photography, wish Dad were still around he'd love this 28-2 & he'd set me staight on the camera (and a few other things I'm sure). Need to figure out the background defocus issues.

Thanks buddy! Must say I've been looking for a higher luster HP and I think I did pretty well on this one. Did not expect it in one this "new". And I can't complain about the condition.

Very nice! and good eye, I like the finish. The 28's seem to vary from high gloss to black matte, that has just the right mix!

Some guy near me was selling a 6" 28-2 on armslist for $800, had box and correct grips and appeared to be in 95+% or better. Got real offended when I offered him what it was worth.

You'll forget the $50 as soon as you take it to the range, if not sooner This, I know from experience:

I was lucky to find this one in almost as good as shape as yours, no box and papers, but I did get the original magnas....and I know that I paid more than $50 than it was worth....but it was worth it to me

I think you'll find that gun will find a spot in your collection that won't be taken by another. Like they say, they don't make 'em like they used to!

eta No guns were harmed in the making of this photographic image!

Seriously, what is $50 to guys with our addiction? Just avoid Starbucks/Panera or whatever you waste money on in the morning like I do and you'll have the money back in no time.

That is one nice 28

I worked a trade earlier this year for a 4" 28-2. I traded a 6" 28-2 and put $50 into the deal. So what? Went out to dinner the other evening and it used up almost all of a $50 bill. The $50 that I put into that 4" 28 is worth a evening at a restaurant.

Followup question. The label is missing so this might be the wrong box altogether. But does have a printed label on the end. When did those come along? Later than late 1970's correct?

Anyway here is what is on the computer printed label - again presume wrong box.

If I knew anything about the code on the box that would be interesting.

0282034031 Y
357 HGWY PAT 4IN SQ STBL

Not sure what the "Y" is out there on the end.

Presume the 0282 is for 28-2

I understand the .357 Highway Patrolman 4" Sq Butt

But not the STBL - standard barrel? Oh... Satin Blue?

Did you get a ticket, or just a warning when the Patrolman followed you home?

She's looking good! I have a 28 no dash 6" from 1960. Enjoy yours! Bob

Background defocus issue: F-stop controls the depth of field (area that appears sharp) 1/3 of the area is in front of the focus plane and 2/3 behind it. If you want more in focus, you will have to use a smaller aperature (larger f number) or you can move the focus point a little deeper and utilize the entire depth of field area.
Hope that helps.

your background (that u mentioned) is softly out of focus most likely because the apeture on the lens has opened wide due to a somewhat low level of light....place it in sunlight or flash and it will be sharp
