Pre-10, another price question
I looked at a really nice M&P "pre-10" today.
2", long action, grips looked original (diamond magnas that really fit), gold box, handwriting inside the lid of the box noted receipt in 1948.
Asking price is $799.
I don't think there were tools or paperwork in the box.
I'm not quite comforable spending that much on something I wouldn't be likely to shoot (much), but does that seem out of line?
Thanks for your opinions.

I'd say $500 max, and that may be a stretch. Great guns but they aren't uncommon. It sounds identical to one I picked up last year for $350, but I've since spent a few more dollars for the box, and I'm still looking for the right grips.

I agree with toddimusnimski. $799 seems quite high. The 2" barrel should be worth a bit more, as are serial numbers with an "S" prefix

If the serial number starts with a C then the revolver be worth about $300 tops. The S series revolver are worth a little more because of the beginning of the hammer block safety. Also revolvers starting before S990184 will in most cases have the long throw hammer. After S990184 the M&P will have the short throw hammer. This post belongs in the 1896 to 1961 section. I would say the offered price is too high.

It's just too high as they are quite common.
