Model 57 4" Nickle
I have a shooter grade 58 that I thought would scratch the 41 magnum bug. However as it seems for many on here one just isn't enough. I don't know why a 4" nickel 57 is calling my name so much louder than a blued one, but it is. How tough is a 4" nickel 57 to find and how much more money does a nice one command compared to a blued one. I'm not a collector but would like to buy the nicest one I would still shoot. I have only seen one on gb lately and it is nib with a presentation case asking almost 1600 so that is definitely outside my price range.

I recently picked up a 4 in. nickle 57, finish looks great, had work on trigger at S&W. Paid $800, no extras like box or tools. I love it, 41 is my favorite (currently have 4)

Bought my M57 off this site about a year ago or so. Just the gun, no box, nothing but the gun. Paid what I thought was a ridiculous price, at the time. I saw a nickel 4", just the gun, sell at a gun show about 6 weeks ago for $850. But it was darn near perfect. Here is mine, with some Kurac stocks.

Don't forget about the model 657, which is available in both the 4" and 3" barrel lengths. They're not easy to find but the do turn up now and again.

I bought a no dash Model 57 with 4 inch barrel about three years ago off this forum for $950. But it came with a beautiful set of ivory grips with S&W medallions. I later sold the grips and reduced my cost on the Model 57 to about $650 and then I traded it for a 29-2 with 4 inch barrel even up.

The 657 is definitely an option too... I saw a 3" at the last gun show I was at, but I had just bought the 58 and was plenty content at the time.

I was the only bidder on this one from Gunbroker. It's in near perfect condition. Paid the starting price of $325. But that was about 6 years ago. Seller was a Texas pawn shop.

If you can find one for a decent price you can't go wrong. I got this one from a family friend who has now passed on. Came with all the S&W stuff including the wooden case and shipping box. It's a 57 no-dash and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

GLL,
The case colors on both of your 57 and 58 hammers and triggers are amazing. Did you have them done?

Model 57 Nickel
Catsfan20;
If your interested, I have a Model 58 4 inch Nickel S/N 155xxx (1973?) with no box or tools that I may sell. It looks unfired, but I am not sure.

Lenny:
No the colors are original. In person the case colors look pretty normal. They may look intense because the photo was taken in the shade?

FYI
Catsfan20,
I just listed yesterday my Mod 57 (no dash) 4in. nickel for sale in the guns for sale forum. It is pristine. Let me know if you're interested.
Thanks

I was recently offered $750.00 for mine. I did not respond to or even make eye contact with the guy. I do not like to be bothered by strangers at the range.

Sadly, since I originally posted this question I have had to come to the realization that I am going to have to buy a new vehicle as the Pathfinder I have now is no longer a reliable form of transportation. Seems that a 57 will have to take a back seat to a new back seat so to speak. That is a very nice looking gun though and I appreciate the heads up on it. Dang these responsible expenditures.
