48-2 picked up what year made?
I just got it today
Has the box and a LR cylinder
some help with the year would be appreciated

She was shipped in 1971. Hope that helps.

serial # shows 1971 but the 48-2 started in 1962 and the 48-3 started in 1967.

I have a 4" 48 that by serial number should be a dash 3 but is stamped with no dash. Not sure how S&W pulled the frames for manufacture on the 48's.

Without any rhyme or reason. They were in the business of selling guns and making money and didn't give a whit about collectors. They didn't believe in the FIFO (First In First Out) system either and grabbed the next handiest frame available, worked it up and shipped it out. It's the collectors cross to bear.

Weatherby, does that gun have a gold bead front sight. My friend has a 48 with two cylinders and a gold front bead.

actually I just threw in the mag cylinder and am going to try it out before work today

Dick....I don't believe FIFO is important unless your product has an expiry date.
