One of a Kind 19-2??
What can you tell me about these 19-2 specs?
Made in 1966. Hand built by Don Khoury, tuned by Pete Traska. Colt blued! 4-inch barrel, adj. sights. Includes Jerry Miculek stocks. The owner says it is a safe queen "One of a Kind"

Asking price is $550. This is a posted picture. Is there anything special about this 19-2?

Looks like a pretty basic, probably re-finished, 4" Model 19 with Miculek stocks. The only thing "special" about it is the imagination of the seller.
Price is probably right at the top of what it's worth. The old expression is "Buy the gun, not the story!"

Finish leaves a lot to be desired. $500 is more than I would pay for it personally.

Jeff, it has been refinished, just look at the hammer and trigger they should be color case hardened.
It may be a great shooter but that is all it will ever be, $550.00 is to much for that one.

The trouble with modifieing and tuneing a gun is that all the money invested cannot be normally recovered, its basicly worth the price of a stock gun as long as you cannot see the mods and the work done has not rendered it unsafe or unreliable. A reblue, even if well done usually reduces the worth of the gun. I usually shy away from such a gun unless I know for sure who did the work and their reputation as a qualified gunsmith. You can buy a bunch-O-trouble if you are not carefull. Now this was not aimed at that revolver but is a general rule of thumb that I operate by.

This is truely a learning site. I really love the few old Smiths that I have...but I'm certainly an "Old Rookie". Thanks for the help!

sellers usually try to make their item sound special but the truth on this revolver is it is worth less the a stock Model 19-2 in my opinion.

I have been following this ad for months now. While I still believe it is about $150+ overpriced, the seller was trying to get a lot more in his initial ads. I couldn't figure out why it was priced so high, but it's a free country.
Nice to see fellow NES guys on this site. There are actually a lot of us on here.

Only way I would pay that asking price is if I could inspect it in person to make sure I won't be replacing springs from light strikes after the first range visit and he has the original wood. Those Hogues are kind of a love them or hate them issue with me, and I hate them. Really, I would almost want to see the insides since it's being talked up as having been "tuned". That's usually an indicator of why the screws are buggered up and the action feels sloppy or like it's full of sludge now. I paid more than that for a darn near new looking 19-3 that doesn't have a scratch or scuff on it, has the original wood in near new condition, and is as tight as it should be with no sign of 125gr redhots having been run through her. So they are out there if you want one bad enough. That seller is trying to get top dollar for a very questionable gun. And cold blue... I will trust my own, but not anyone else's...

Might be my ignorance, but who are Don Khoury and Pete Traska? No immediate name recognition for me and I'm reasonably up on these things, but more importantly, not much return from a basic Google search of the names (except the ad itself).
If you're going to bring out names associated with building or tuning a gun, I think you need ones like Grant Cunningham, Karl Sokol, Teddy Jacobson and the like.
And what does "Colt blued" mean? A S&W was sent to Colt for blueing? Looks like a factory S&W job to me (and original, in my opinion; some of the questionable reflections look like gun oil, there's a little marring on the right side and holster wear up front, and I think that rather than refinished, the odd look to the hammer and trigger are simply the relatively normal loss of the "candy" on the case hardening over time).
Miculek grips are nice, but don't add the cost of them to the overall price -- once they went on they became used; original grips numbered to the gun are what add value to a used firearm.
The asking price is a bit high but asking prices should be a bit high -- that's what haggling's for. But it's more than a $350 gun. If it times right and is within spec, split the difference and say around $450, maybe a little more if the internals are in great, tuned shape and the it's exactly the gun being looked for.

Agreed on all counts, except: those aren't Hogue grips, they're Miculek; and it's listed as Colt blued, not cold blued.

Sounds like the seller is trying to recover the price of the "Tune up job" he had done over and above the retail price he paid for the gun. Any internal work done on a gun is strictly for that user's personal preference and is a write off expense, not an asset. It may detract from the gun in someone else opinion.

I usually make it a point to steer clear of "one of a kind" or "special" guns...

The grips even look suspect to me ,is that the frame poking out the front, I dont remember JM or Hogue grips with that feature?
There is a nicer looking, 19-3 on this forum for less, just need a set of grips.
I havent seen too many older model 19s that needed much tuning or fitting ,if they hadnt been messed with. Good Luck , Bob
After reading his add, sounds like the guys isnt trying to rip anyone off, he is allowing locals to even shoot the gun.
Its like someone said, really hard to recoup money for custom work that may have not been needed, or was a personal thing, especially if its non visual, like bull barrels, special sights etc.
