S&W Model 21-2
A couple questions...
1. What should a 21-2 be chambered in?
2. What is the rough value of a good condition 21-2?
Thanks guys!!

Hey, the model 21 was made in 44 special. The value of the gun is kind of tricky..Do you have any pictures you can post?? there are a lot of factors that go into the price.
condition of the finish?
was the gun refinished?
are the grips origional?
does it have the box and paperwork?
any historical signifigance?
was it owned by any one famous?
does it have a factory letter?
All those make a difference with the price...

IT WAS KNOWN AS THE 1950 MILITARY AND THE 4TH .44 HAND EJECTOR BEFORE THE MODEL 21 WAS DESIGNATED WAS APPLIED IN 1957.IT WAS CHAMBERED FOR .44 SPECIAL CARTRIDGE AND EQUIPED WITH FIXED SIGHTS. THE 21 WAS BUILT ON THE N FRAME AND IS VERY RARE, AS ONLY 1,200 WERE MANUFACTURED IN 16 YEARS. IT WAS DISCONTINUED IN 1966.
CONDITION PRICES
EXC. 1550. V.G. 950. FAIR 650. POOR 500.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD SHOOTING

If it is a real 21-2, letter it. Letter it now. A friend has my Standard Catalog right now but IIRC, this is a hen's teeth gun. Also the values on pre-21s are a bit higher than listed above on the higher conditions.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I'm just looking to find one for the collection and don't want to overpay if I can find one in good shape.

Looking for one?
You had everyone all riled up thinking you had FOUND one.
Which, by the way, you probably won't. A model marked 21-2 maybe doesn't exist. If there were any made, it will be an excruciatingly small number.

The reason I posted the question is that I'm looking to pick one up. I was contacted by a gentleman who noticed that I collected S&W's on my local gun site. He said he had a 21-2 that he'd sell, but couldn't recall the caliber. I thought this would give me an opportunity to post the question while waiting for him to pull it out, take pics and message me back.
I'll let you guys know how it all turns out!
Thanks again guys!
