good lord, I love garage sales...............
It's pouring down rain. But I had to run out and pay some bills. stopped at a garage sale just to look around and spotted a familiar looking wooden box on a shelf behind where everyone was sitting..
asked to see it and was told ," it's $250.00 firm...." I think I sprained my shoulder trying to get my wallet out of my pocket when I saw what was inside the box...
Think I did good? box is going to be going off to Joe for reflocking, and the 27 looks barely fired....

Kinda sad, it was an older couple selling off everything to move to a retirement home.. and yes, I did tell them it's worth way more than their price..

I will give you $275.00 for it sight unseen. Seriously, it is good that it is going to someone that appreciates what it is. Congratulations and enjoy.

That's probably a little less than they paid for it, and they might have felt that they shouldn't charge you as much for a used gun . Enjoy!

Geeez. At that price you can afford to hack the barrel off the 4 1/2" and throw in a nice hard chrome job and still be ahead of the game. That wooden box can be used to store socket wrenches so it won't be a complete loss...

Oh Yea, you did do good!
But will suggest that you look it over really well, there has to be a flaw you didn't see at first for that price. Oh, that's right you already said the box was going to the box hospital for Doctor Joe to make well. Is it a -2 or -3? Congratulations on a great find kritter!

Nice score!
We can ALMOST see it.
Please for the sake of God, take it out of the box, stage it under natural light and take another pic! Then we can tell barrel length, etc.
Also, open the crane and tell us the dash number.

Sale
Was it actually for sale/part of the garage sale?
Were they actually planning on selling it or was it just sitting on the shelf where it had been stored?

Based on the box, grips, paperwork and what I can see of the revolver , I'm seeing a 8 3/8ths 27-2.

Well, I went to a community yard sale this morning. I love them, my wife hates them. But she goes along to make sure she can rain on my parade. She says its just other peoples junk! At the big parking lot where folks can have tables instead of their own drives, I was happy. Of course at the first table we found a lady who was selling aluminum baking pans. The single use variety, 3 for a $1. So she wanted 2 of the packages of 3. A little farther along a lady had a pile of pliers, with a $1 each sign. So I asked her if she had a better price. She said yes, $5 for all of them. I counted 9 so I bought them all. Then we saw a giant piggy bank for a $1 so I bought it for my grandson. We'll keep it at my house and consider it his "offshore" banking. I've got a pile of change to stuff in it already.
So a little farther along some guy had a pile of stuff. I thought she was digging for the electronic soduku game. But she found a Singer serger for $2. I paid up, guessing it won't work. But it does. Not a rival for her $700 one in the basement, but a good portable toy. So we were done there and left.
They were giving out a sheet with all the sales in the city. The first one was kind of hard to find. But what they had for $5 was a TV stand. It was sturdy enough you could drive a truck over it. And it had 3 really large glass shelves. Well, that and a $5 price tag. So it took about 15 minutes to rearragne the jeep to get it and the shelves all inside. What I saw that my wife just hates is another use for it. Its going in the gun room. Its just shelving to me. And the "short shelf" is about 2' wide. The current plan is to store boxed guns on the middle shelf. The bottom one will either carry boxed ammo or Heiser holsters. Not sure yet. And it means I need to "repurpose" one of my large executive desks to hold it and the thing I bought at the gun show later today.
For the last year at least when I go to the OGCA show I tell the guy in the back corner that if he makes a carrosel and brings it, I'd buy it. I'm a distrusting skeptic and won't order something from a guy I don't know and who doesn't have a real business. But today he had one, all boxed up. When he saw me he was laughing. He never thought to sell what he makes at the show. He just wanted to display his best models. This one holds 12 long guns. And I can put it right next to the glass TV stand on the one executive style walnut desk. Its big and sturdy. I'll actually have a display room now. If I had any style, I'd try to finish the ceiling and walls because poured concrete is ugly. But poured concrete is hard to breach. So are vault doors. Now I'll be needing lights.

Great score! I have a friend that goes to a lot of garage sales. He says that anytime he sees fishing stuff for sale he will just ask if they happen to have any guns for sale? As a result, he has gotten some very good buys.

BIG TIME CONGRAT'S
And to the skeptics, there are still great deals to be had used. What could you have possibly gotten new/retail for 250$? Nothing that would be a pimple on the backside of that fine piece. Since it has been fired already, IMO shoot the snot out of it, treat it with reasonable care, and if you ever decide to sell it, make a huge profit & still be able to give the future buyer a good deal. Karma been bery bery good to you.

everything was for sale there, they just had it sitting behind them because it was a firearm...
and yes it's a 27-2 with a 8-3/8 barrel......and it's been shot, this evening.
Yes. I'm lucky, I'm the young guy in an older community.. most of my neighbors are either dieing off or moving to retirement homes and are just unloading everything...
so far at the sales, I've acquired the 27 from this post.
a 1955 k22 six inch.. if I remember right was also 250...( wanted it out of the house because of grandkids )
a 38 topbreak ( fourth change ) at a sale for 50 cents..... that's right .50
and lastly a new Remington 870 SP that showed up at my door from a neighbor who was moving ( as payment for plowing his drive for ten years with out charging )
So.. when I see a sale I stop and ask.... "because I just gottsta know"

I was thinking 3 inch round-butted, and maybe a yellow and black tiger stripe durra-coat with some pearl grips... the box.. well, I have one of those plastic bucket thingies to hold the sockets, but use vise-grips most of the time anyway..so I'd probally use the box for kindeling..

Congratulations to the OP but I'm too old to spend the next 10 years at all those worthless garage sales in the hopes of finding one or two bargains. I'd rather be shooting, or any number of other worth while activities.
YMMV,
Dave

Ok, I'm jealous on many levels...
1) That's a great for find a M27 w/ box and candy in that condition
2) Then you consider the price and wow.
3) Be thankful you live in the great state of Ohio. In NY you can't buy/sell handguns at garage sales, pawn shops or even face to face. All must go through a FFL and be added (or removed) on your CC permit at your County Clerk office.
4) All I got from the torrential rains of this week was soaked!!!
Enjoy it sir. She's a beauty!

What a find!
Maybe I should stop once in awhile to weed through the kids toys and old lawn/sports equipment when I see a garage sale.

Congratulations and well done on your part for advising them it was more than the asking price. I like to think that is the Smith way of doing business.
Now, if I send you a few dollars, would you buy me some lottery tickets?

Yep, now you'll never be able to pass a yard sale without thinking, "I wonder.......". I hope you get lucky again.

And go slide Mom & Pop another cut.
Well done. Good find AND you did the right thing. They probably DID pay 300 new, and it is used, and they won't gouge just because they can. Pity we're losing that generation.
