Smith And Wessom 10-6 INfo
Hello, I am new to Smith And Wesson's totally but not new to guns at all. There is a model 10-6 at the local pawn shop with moderate finish wear on on it but mechanically this gun is very tight, very solid gun; they want 199.00 for it, what do you guys think? I am buying it in the morning for sure. NO matter the blueing wear I think it is a good price, do you? it looks better in real life. I think it is a damn good deal. So this is a model 10? what makes it a -6 -5 or the like? Can it handle +P ++P Like Buffalo bore stuff?

The important thing is the turn line and cylinder lock groove, and on that gun it looks good - not heavily used. With a little Flitz to clean and polish it, then a solvent wash, and lastly a little cold blue, will make it look a lot better.
Thats a good price too.
Model 5 has a tapered barrel, model 6 has a straight, heavier barrel, maybe some other changes too.
Some people say the 10's can shoot the +P, others say not to. I'd call S&W and see what they say.

There have been 6 engineering changes. It will handle Buffalo Bore stand pressure and +P. for +P+ I do not know. I have a 10-5 which is my favorite smith.

It is fine for +P use; you'll go broke feeding it at $1-2 per round before you wear it out .
It has the appearance of an ex-LE gun, with the worn right stock panel. When you pick it up, if you want to post the letter and first few digits from the bottom of the grip frame, like D123xxx, we can let you know when it left the factory.

199 is a good deal on that gun. I would buy it without hesitation.

Well Tomorrow is the day, I am a former Luger collector, only owning one now and into P-38's etc, I been into guns for 38 years and I DON't know a thing about S/W's. So this is a totally new avenue for me and I cannot wait to become a collector with a gun of my American heritage. Despite some out blemishes this gun to me looks to me to be in excellent mechanical condition, it is tight and it looks better in real life. I cannot wait to get it, UNLESS he sold it between 4pm and 7 tonghit it will be mine in the am and in my hands. Thanks for the info. I posted the other side of it, let me know what you guys think of her.

It's a buy at $199.00 if the action checks out. Nice gun for beginner or experienced shooter.

Sounds like it would be a nice gun to buy and shoot and / or use for home protection.
A lot of these were made, so if you want one that is in collector-quality condition, they are out there. Conversely, if you want a good shooter at a reasonable price, they are out there too.
This one is nickled and dressed up with target stocks.

I'd pay $199 for that, as long as its good mechanically.

If it's mechanically sound you got a real bargin and like others have said you can shoot all the +p ammo you can afford to feed it.

Five years ago that was a $125 gun. Two years ago, it was a $175 gun. Today, it is easily a $200-$225 gun. They ain't making them like that no more.
The only damage +p ammo will do is to your bill fold.
As someone said, it looks like an LEO gun, or possibly a security guard weapon. Security guard weapons tended to be carried 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I remember, back in the early 70s, signing for an old Colt every night, then handing it to the 8-4 guy in the morning.

Why is the finish so bright? What type of blue technique is this? I see Rust blue on Lugers, this is my first S/W so please don't think I am too ignorant.... I am new to Smtih's totally but into guns for 39 years. thanks guys, all great reponses, and I love this gun.

Carbonia blue is the technique. Nicer than rust blue. (Although, all bluing technically IS rust)
