Default Old age bravery

I had a box of old Remington lead semi wadcutters in the old ammo pile and decided I'd get rid of them today.
My disposal unit was my favorite 2 1/2 inch Mod.19-2.
It has regular checkered magna grips with Tyler T that has been working fine for me.
This ammo is at least 40 years old, some stuff I got that was my Dad's when he passed in '99.

I did some slow fire, some rapid sighted fire, and some point shooting with this 50 rounds of magnums.
This I can say.The sharp checkering on the magnas will definetely leave an impression on 'ya in rapid fire.
I can feel a little twinge in my right wrist right now, like I've bumped it on something. I think I need to get some smooth combats on this here piece.I also think I'll stick with the 135gr.+P Goldies in this oldie.
I need to get tougher,I reckon. There's no sissy like an old sissy. But... it was fun to go back in time.

Hum... 2 1/2 inch 19-2 w/ Rem. .357 lead ammo. 158 gr. LSWC I expect. Yep! Real handful. Lots of fun in a 4" 19. Even more fun in a 2 1/2 inch 19!

You, sir, are to be commended for your bravery under fire.

The magnas are my least favorite stocks. The Ahrends combats are the best I've tried to date.

I put Pachmayr's on my 19 2 1/2, what a difference. I guess I'm not in the he-man girls haters club anymore because of it, but I sure enjoy shooting it more that way.

Stu, some of that older Magnum ammo had a snap to it. Good for you, someones gotta take one for the old guy team.
Really I hope the wrist will quickly get back to normal soon.

old bear,it's all better now. I remember carrying this stuff along with the Winchester equivilant back before we had good hollowpoints. I didn't have much concern about it then, because it felt like a hard hammering round.
That lack of concern was later justified, but then the Super Vels came along and we started using that. Much better choices today. I usually throw on a set of Pachmeyer compacs if I'm going to be shooting full magnums, which is rare, but today I just wanted to remember what it was like. I found out. I'm with SR on this. The he man stuff is for the birds.

Try the wimp solution: PAST shooting gloves. Solves Magnas,
cheesegraters and even soften hands.

My dear ole Pap always told me that when it comes to dating, "Discretion is the better part of valor". I'm thinking that applies to more than just dating! I like the idea of gloves AND pachmeyers...

If a 2 1/2 M19 was supposed to be fun to shoot it should have been made heavier with a longer barrel. I just shoot mine 6 times ever once in a while just to make sure it still works. Larry

I think shooting a short barreled .357 is good for the soul and its even better if you can do it front of one the "tactical" crowd and show them what its like when you can accurately shoot something making a big boom like that. I don't have a K frame short barrel, but I like shooting snotty loads out of my 27 and since I got hurt its one handed or nothing. A 125 grain Hornady XTP and 16.5 grains of 2400 is an attention getter in any handgun.

For brief time, a few of us on my department thought it would be nice to have these as a boot/backup gun....

Our local dealer gave us a group buy discount at the time if we could get 20 of us to purchase them.

Well, I think I am the only one who even kept one. So I feel your pain, literally.

Of course we all loaded these up with 125 gr JHP Magnum rounds.....
: This translates to OW,OW,OW,OW!!!!

And of course the usual !!@#%^%@@%^^&*((&^%$#!!!!!

It's not even nice with light .38's. I carried it with .38 +P's for awhile and went back to my Model 49.

It's in my safe, but as a conversation piece only...lol.

I always wondered about shooting one of those.I never did. I kind of thought it wouldn't be painless just looking at the grip shape.
The local dealer who got two of them in finally sold one to a civilian collector, the other one stayed in the display case for years. I'll have to ask him about it,and if he eventually sold it.

Way back in the early '60s I had a Hy Hunter Remington style (and size) derringer in .357. I was young and dumb enough to actually fire it with .357s a couple of times. WOW!

Eventually the fairly soft internals wore enough so the pawl quit working, so I mounted it in a shadow box and hung it on the wall for 30 years or so. About a year ago I found replacement parts for it and fixed what needed fixing. Went out back and dumped a couple of .38 Specials into the dirt and called it good.

Every once in a while I remember what that thing felt like with .357s and cringe. Today you couldn't pay me enough to fire it with them, let alone risk the loss of a hand...
