All I have to say is that my new 28-2 just blew my mind! No pun intended....... As you all know from a previous post I am a new member here and this is my first S&W. I fired at 10 and 15 yards using Federal American Eagle 357. My groupings were astounding! I had set the sights back to what I think would be a neutral position when I got it. I dont need to adjsust it at all! My buddy went with me and now he is in the market for one. I couldn't be happier with this fine gun. Maybe I'll keep my eyes open for a better finished Model 27. Although hands down this is my favorite gun I have ever owned!
Shoots like a dream, no recoil, very accurate and down right beautiful looking! I have the S&W bug!

Congrats on your first of what sounds like many great Smiths.
The Model 28 is great at doing what it was designed to do and the Model 27 adds a layer of "Pretty" on top of it ,

Then you just need a Model 586 L frame for comparison and a K frame Model 19 and that's all you need,
Wait you will probably need a Model 37 airweight for CCW, then you need a K22 as a trainer, and maybe a J frame 22 Model 34 too,
Oh and maybe a 44 magnum and a Mountain gun and a 9mm auto....Welcome aboard

S$Ws are addictive! engine49 guy is right, youre gonna need one of every kind and youll find a way to justify it to yourself and loved ones ...

Yeah I agree 100% with all of you. This could become a problem ;-)

It does have a small one to me. But then again I am used to shooting 45's. I do believe the big frame absorbs most of it. I have a Ruger New Vaquero too in 357 and that bucks more then the Model 28.

Interesting how getting and shooting just one can "doom" a person so quickly.

I bought a 66-1 about a year and a half ago, not I have 9 Smith's the last two were 28-2's, very nice.

What's the serial number range/age?

The model number is N82xxx. I was told it's from prob 1971 or 1972 from the good folks here on this forum.

Amarino, I hear you. I was in the market for a .357 a few weeks back. A buddy had a Ruger GP100 for a good deal and I mentioned it to my Lt. at work. He proceeds to offer me his Model 28 that he got from the old Chief. It is pristine with original grips. It was a six inch however and I'm fond of fours. The price was right and when I tried the trigger I knew it had to be mine. It's a tack driver too. I regret selling my other Smiths back in the day (got into black guns) but I can rebuild the collection one at a time. Glad to hear you enjoying that 28.

amarino24, be careful. engine49guy has it correct when he stated you need to get other Smiths. Glad to hear you want a M27. However, do not forget the M57 and M58's, .41 mag. The the M29-2, .44 mag, and of course, the .45 acp and .45 lc varities of Smiths. Then there is......well, you know it just never ends.

I would think you would be better served with a K-22 then pick up a M-29. The K-22 was to tell you if you have picked up any bad habbits and with an M-29 who needs a M27.
I have a M-28,K-22,a M-29 and a M-41 they can make you a good shooter and tell you what you are doing wrong, the K-22 can fix your revolver errors and the M-41 can show you what you are doing wrong with autos. Just my .02 cents

Nice 4in 28-2! The highwaypatrolman was my first S&W too! I wish mine was a 4in like yours. My 28 is a s pre-fix serial what is yours?

Congratulations as the 28-2 in 4 inch was your perfect first S&W revolver for lots of reasons. One it's an N frame built to handle the recoil of the 357 magnum and secondly it's a good deal even at current prices even though they have risen in the past 18 months. We all kid about the addiction and some of us laugh less loud when we look at our bank accounts but we all know a good deal when we see one and a 28-2 in 4 inch is a very good deal.

Congratulations on the 28, and WELCOME to the forum. Probably the best bang for the buck on the market today.

You made a wise choice with the 28-2 4" being your first Smith
wheel gun grasshopper. The N-frame 4" in .357 is as good as it gets
IMHO. Like you have learned, very mild recoil even with max loads
and they are very accurate weapons. The 27-2 or earlier is also a
"great weapon". You could do alot worse. Like some have said
it is a slippery slope you have just stepped into. Many more will
now be in your future.
