Default Model 30 S&W Long

I have a friend that called today and said he'd found a model 30 in his grandmother's old house. She passed away 9 years ago and they never knew she even had a gun but found it hidden under and loose stone in the fireplace! The gun is locked up tight with rust but he says he thinks he can bring it back with alittle work. The question he asked me was when it was made. The serial number is 693372. Anybody have any information I can pass on to him? Thanks for your help. I have got to get me one of those books! lol

Hard to believe that no one knows when this was made.

That should be a Model 30 no-dash. It's an improved I Frame, more than likely made in 1959 or 1960. The change to Model 30-1 was in 1961 at serial # 712954. They are neat guns, hope you can bring it back to life.

Thanks K9 Rex. I haven't seen it yet but he said he should be able to free it up. I'll pass the info on to him. I told him it probably would make a good project gun to refinish with Duracoat because I know he will never get rid of it. I've already asked! Thanks again.
