From what I can gather, it looks as if the S&W factory primarily used Goncalo Alves wood for its checkered Target Stocks on Model 19s and other vintage revolvers. What other types of wood did the factory use for its Smooth Target, Presentation and Combat revolver grips? I would like to buy the last three types for my Model 19 and want to make sure they are factory original grips. Thanks for your help.

Walnut and rosewood, but there may be others, especially as a special order.

Goncalo alves and rosewood were the two types of wood generally used for target stocks for the Model 19. Below is a photo of a Model 19-3 with smooth rosewood target stocks.

Here is a repeat photo of a picture with 3 different types of factory offered wood used to make smooth "K" frame target grips. Top, Model 19, Rosewood, middle, Model 17, Birdseye Maple, and bottom, Model 16 with Goncalo Alves. Although Goncalo Alves, and Walnut usually came on the Model 19 depending when the gun was made, using any of the factory offered grips would be OK to put on the gun in my opinion.

Stocks made of birds eye maple are nearly impossible to find, but the search is often the fun part.

I guess I still can learn something up here as I have never seen a pair of factory Maple grips and those are beautiful.
