My 10-5 w/ question about the finish
This is my 4" Model 10-5. It was given to me by my wife for Christmas in 2008. Her dad found it for her to give to me. That thanksgiving we were at her grandfathers house and he brought out a 6" model 10 to show us and her Dad noted how much I liked it so he suggested finding one for her to give me for Christmas. Its my favorite gun and favorite shooter out of my collection. I am wondering if some of the marks on the finish are pock marks of rust or just imperfections of the blueing. Also does anyone know what make of grips these are? Anyway I just wanted to share my modest little Model 10 here. I have been looking for a Model 19 for a couple of years now but havent found the right one at the right price yet. Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the forum.
I can see your gun just fine. The finish looks pretty good for a shooter that's at least 35 years old - don't look so close! The grips appear to be an old pair of Herrett's Shooting Star with standard checkering.

Clean and apply Renaissance wax. She will provide years of fine service and enjoyment.

Blued revolvers will clean up really well using 4 (0000) brass or steel wool and then an aplication of Johnsons floor wax or Renaissance wax. The 4(0000) wool mixed with a little gun oil will take the surface oxidation and minor rust off and the wax will seal the surface to prevent any further oxidation. I take the grips off, the cylinder out and the cylinder release latch off and do this proceedure and the results are amazing. I also clean the gun throughly just before doing this as that's the final step.

Welcome to the forum!
Your model 10-5 appears to be a fine shooter-grade gun in good condition.
"modest"? My behind! That's one of the finest handguns every made! I have one and love it. It's one of my best and favorite shooters.
No, I don't know what kind of grips they are other than to say that they are Target style and probably didn't come as original - which is good because they'll probably feel better than the original magnas.
Enjoy it in good health and welcome to the forum!

Yes! steel wool and oil have helped me turn some "scruffy" guns into gems again.....Amen for steel wool...

Thank you all for the responses. I'm going to try a liitle 0000 steel wool tonight. Can someone give me a quick tutorial of the wax application, does it need to be buffed off?

That is a great revolver. It should give decades of enjoyment and security. The .38 Special is a fine cartridge for target shooting and no slouch for self defense.
When working to clean up the surface, be gentle. As you go along, you can always do another pass. But once you go too far, there is no going back!
As for wax, I apply it with my fingers, let it dry, then buff gently with a clean flannel cloth. Again, be gentle and apply the wax sparingly. You can always do it again since waxing doesn't take much time or effort.
