They are one of the best .357s ever made. A four inch N-Frame is a very handy field gun.
If you would like to disclose some details, feel free.

I guess maybe I'm crazy. I see this exact statement over and over: "I have FINALLY found a Model 28!" I didn't realize the 28 was hard to find. I see them all the time.
Well, I'm glad you're happy. I sure never knew 28s were rare.

You're not crazy (well, I don't really know ya that well, do I?). It's just that, like the pencil barrel models and the CTG models, the Model 28s have become high-ticket collectibles, so knowledgeable collectors are snappin' 'em up and holdin' onto 'em'til their prices go thru the roof.

One of my favorite revolvers
I love the 4" model 28. That big N-frame soaks up so much of the .357's recoil it sometimes doesn't seem fair! I mean, shouldn't those magnums hurt just a little?

I'm glad you found a "6-inch" to go with your "4-inch".
Wait. We're talking revolvers, right?

SaxonP, you are not crazy at all. There was a time, fairly recently, when a M28-2 would not bring much money at all. However, in the Atlanta market, a nice 4" M28-2 is difficult to find. Not rare by any means, but a good one, difficult to find. Until recently, the 6" M28-2's were the least expensive and the easiest to find in good shape. Not now. I looked at a 6" M28-2 yesterday, fair condition, aftermarket grips, and the guy wanted $525 for it. I got him down to $485, but that was it. Passed on it hoping to find one in a little better condition, even if it costs a little more.

I agree with SP, here in Arkansas they are pretty common but like everything else the prices keep going up.

The rare-ness of 4" M28s may be a regional thing. In my area, you will see ten 6" M28s for every 4" you stumble across.

Here in nj 28s dont show up much. At least at all the shops I go to they don't show up. I found my 28-2 6 in at the same shop they are the largest gun shop in central nj.I will pay $450 otd for it. It is in nice shape no scratches in the bluing locks up tight! Timing is perfect on all six chambers.I go to the shops every week I'm retired and have lots of time for shooting 3 times a week and gun hunting!I wish they showed up as much as they do in the South buyt they don't.My 6in 28 is a s prefix serial and is in mint shape! If I wanted a 27 or 29 that would be no problem to find but the 28 is a different story.I like the 4in barrels better than the 6in.Unless it has the half lug then I go 6in!The 4in 28 will be at the range alot with my 4in 686-1 and my GP100!I even have my son in Tenn looking for the 28 when he can. When he finds them and they are loose. The hunt is over for now. I might start with the 27s now which the hunt will be easier. When I get the 4in 28 will post pics with the 6in!

They are pretty scarce around my area. The 6" revolvers show up once in a while but the 4" ones are pretty rare.
The last time I saw one, I got it! It is a pleasure to shoot .357 in it vs my 4" 19-3...

Around here I see more 27's than I do 28's.
To the OP. Congratulations. Nice find.

When I got my 28Ilove the feel and accuracy! I had a 4in GP 100 also. My 28 is a 66-67 date of manufacture s prefix serial.I bought a 6 in 686 . I shot it a bit buit didn't like the point heavy feel. I sent it to S&W an d had it rebarreled to a 4in.What a difference it made!I love the feel of the 4in barrel!I'm so glad I found the 4in 28!Just have to wait for the permits to come in!gagunner send it to lgs in comanchee Texas they are a S&W warranty center and thats where I sent my 686 to rebarrel. Great work and fast 9 day turnaround!

Congratulations! For many years I have owned a nice 6" 28-2. This year I did a little trading and came up with a very nice 4" 28-2. I don't know which I prefer... the 4" 28 or my 4" 66-3. It's hard to say. I do not care for the magna grips on either revolver, but for my hand, the S&W target grips are excellent. For the record, I prefer the 4" 28 or the 6" barrel length.
