Calling all 32 Long fans....Found 31-1 at work with puzzling serial #

Hi all,

At work we got in a S&W model 31-1, P&R. I looked in my SCSW and cannot find a date for it with the serial number ranges given. It is # H134* (only four digits after the "H), and the earliest in the SCSW is H00001 (five digits after the "H").

Can anyone give me a year this one was made?

Cannot help much. We have a 4" Model 31-1 SnH505xx.
I had not given much thought as to when it was made.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 required S&W to change the serial numbering system for many models. The 31-1 J frame series was changed to an H prefix in 1969 which started at #H1. The notation on the serial number for this model in the Standard Catalog is incorrect!
