boxed 57
i have a unfired mint model 57 4" all target with wood presentation box and cleaning kit, and most paper work that went with it. My question is i got this from a guy for $800 about 3 years ago, will shooting this take away any value from the original price i paid and can i expect to see any increase in value once it has been fired. Also i know for a fact that it hasn't ever been fired as i'm the second owner and i knew the first as well. Thanks for any input.

If the gun is completely flawless it will lose value. If it's 97%, probably not.
If it makes you feel any better,I've done it to a few :-)

My revolvers get used, no safe queens for me, but I do take great care to clean them after each use. I wont ever own a revolver I cant shoot. They were made to use IMHO. Ron.

If it is truly unfired or just factory tested with the three chambers showing residue on the cylinderface I personally would not shoot it. There are a lot of collectors who place a premium on unfired cased N-frame guns and shooting would probably knock the value down 10-20%.
I found a boxed 4" nickel 57-1 that had only been factory test fired that I picked up for a good price and then sold for a good profit. Also had a consecutively numbered set of 6" nickel and a 8 3/8" nickel that were all unfired.
If you want a shooter .41 sell the virgin and find one with a little "experience"...

To shoot or not to is always the question with an unifred revolver and it's totally up to you. If you shoot it won't be NIB anymore and yes the value will be 20% less to a collector.

Something so far not mentioned, could this be an early M57 with a S serial number and Coke grips? Did they come in presentation boxes?
If so I would probably leave it as is because it is already worth a good bit more than you paid for it and as LNIB it would be at a premium.
