Missing Thumb Latch Screw
I was at the range today shooting my Model 49 bodyguard. It is a 1976-77 model. As I was shooting the thumb latch fell off, I was able to catch the latch, but the screw few off into the grate on the floor, impossible to find in the sea of brass. Is this a hard part to replace. Thanks, Jesse.

The hardest part is getting it in your hand. In fact, it's really a cap nut with a slot in it to look like a screw head, and you put it on with a closely fitting screw driver. Shouldn't take more than 15 seconds. If you can't get it from GPC/Numrich, you might also try Brownell's or even Midway... it's a part common to many of the S&Ws.

It's a universal part with all S & W revolvers with a thumb latch - if you call S & W customer service and ask nicely they may send you one for free. Don't quote me on that though...

Thanks, before I ordered it, I took your advise and called s&W customer service and asked nicely. They asked me for my name and address and will be sending me one in the mail free.

Well, received the part today. I'm impressed with S&W customer service. Received the thumb latch nut in two days and no charge. I'm happy, plus I wont miss a range day this weekend.
