S&W .357 Highway Patrolman Serial No. N111181 Model 28-2
Any idea the Year on this and maybe Value. I just picked this up from its original owner who I dont think ever fired it. I cant find anything or figure out what year this was issued. It also has a very fat grip that I havent found on any other also. Help me if you can. I have a couple other firearms I might need help with and considering parting with.

I would check the prices on the guns for sale and auction sights to get an overall average look at the current prices. I say this because i shop around a lot and these prices seem to be all over the place lately. Plus i think the 28's are highly sought after too.

Those are not original factory grips but aftermarket.
These guns are becoming highly sought after and bring anywhere from $500 and up (depending on condition).
How about some bigger pictures?

Welcome to the forum Bigmak! I have a soft spot for Highway Patrolmen, they are a fine and, until recently, underrated handgun. Congratulations on finding a good one!
Do you have the box, papers, and tools for the gun? If not, and without the original grips, I personally wouldn't pay more than 450, just because I would have to find the other goodies to go with it (that would end up costing 150 or more, which would bring the total package up to 6 bills). I'm sure there are folks who would pay more, though, particularly folks in California.

I just looked at a five inch barreled one this morning. It was at a dealer and it was cherry. They wanted $525. I don't think the box or paperwork came with it though.

If that is a factory 5 inch 28-2 revolver it is a very rare bird because they came in 4 inch and 6 inch. There were twenty five 5 inch made for the Florida Highway patrol mon a special order.
If it's 5 inch it's probably been cut and the only way to know is a factory letter or other authentication paperwork with the gun.

I had a Gunsmith re-condition and chrome. Brush Chrome on the top of the 4" Barrel. 1984. Has not been fired since the work was done. Worth-Offers?

Welcome to the forum.
The s&w m28-2 w/6" barrel the average price was I seen about three years ago was $695 in 98/99% condition. The 4" barrels are worth more. Some can run $750 to $1,200 depending how rare. Having a 5" barrel is a rarity.
I would never part with mine.
