One more point is the year the gun was manufactured too if its an older one it just maybe blackpowder too. We must remember the older blackpowder revolvers at the late 1800's and turn of the century was very corrosive too. Even the old 22cal ones were BP too. I catch myself all the time before i purchase the older guns.

Plus some prototypes in .30 Carbine and .22 Hornet! Then there's the top break targets in .32-44 and .38-44 plus the .320 Rev Rifle cartridge. Rumors of some .41 Colt or .41 Special test guns pre-1900. And not to forget the .22 Long ladysmiths. If you go WAY back, there were the 3 calibers of Volcanic lever action pistols, too.

I find your mention of the 22 Hornet very interesting. I've always thought S&W would be well served in making a revolver in that cartridge. They did make the .22 Remington Jet, with many problems. These problems would not be as many with the .22 Hornet. Yet would be very similar in performance.
