Default Model 28 Grips original or not?

I have this Model 28-2 , serial 274410 with grips that are one digit off, 274409
what is the chance that they are original, what are the odds that someone found replacement grips one number off, or is it more likely they were on it when it left the factory ? it came with the original box.
thats an S in front of the serial on the grip frame,

I'd be happy with them and not worry.
Probably switched at factory during final assembly/ inspection.
Could have also been in a shipment with many other guns to a Police Dept and the armorer switched them by accident

There is a chance that they came out of the factory that way. The chances that they were made for gun are probably close to zero, but it makes an interesting story, and you have one best pieces of hardware that S&W ever made. Enjoy it.

If they fit the frame right, don't sweat it.

the odds of finding grips that are one number off is impossible! they came on the gun from the factory...or, like VM stated, they were reinstalled on another gun at a Police Dept
