Feast or famine
It seems, when it comes to the availability of good used S&W revolvers, that it's either feast or famine. For the longest time, I couldn't find one, now it seems they're coming out of the woodwork.
One of my favorite LGS has not only one, but two 4" model 28s, one of which has the original box and paperwork. Both are early N serial numbered, one with 4 numbers and the other with 5, and both with stocks numbered to the guns. Add a very nice 586, a 4" 66 with box, paperwork, and tools, a model 14, a model 10, a LS36, a retro 40 complete, and then they through in a 6" Colt Python. Another shop still has a 624 and a 629, that I desire.
Where is that winning lottery ticket when you need it?
I'm considering one of the 28s, but since I have a very nice one already, my budget is having a hard time justifying another (read as justifying another with the Wife). I'm not really a collector, but a nice N numbered gun to go with my S numbered gun would be great.
Since I have nothing on lay-a-way right now, maybe it's time.
Now the debate is, something different, or more of the same?

No, after 27 years, she's proven to be a keeper. She acts as my conscience, and all things considered has done a pretty good job. She allows me my indulgences from time to time, but when money's tight, she has been known to push back.
Warren Sear, yeah, I really like that one too.
Ga Johnny and sophie, I tell you what, let's get everyone together and have a BBQ, after which we'll go shopping. I may know a divorce lawyer that can take care of all of us.

Heavens - this talk of matrimonial stress/divorce...... Scotch that!
I see you mentioned an LS36. Just as a wild thought, why don't you buy that for her, as her gun [after showing it to her], and give her [or get her] some ear/eye protection and good firearms instruction. And hopefully make yourself an ally. Many women actually learn to l-i-k-e firearms
Besides, in these economic times, buying guns is NOT a mere expense - it is a conversion of assets, from dollars to something tangible and highly usable.
Perfect answers? Probably not, but you might try them or some other affirmative approaches. I mention these, as you seem a positive thinker!
Best of luck and Regards,
Dyson

Oh, she likes firearms just fine. Between her Colt Mustang Plus II and her Sig P239 9mm, I'd tell anyone who enters the house uninvited not to run, you'll just die tired. And, she's not a revolver fan.

I like that one, but when the bank calls and tells her the car payment hasn't been made yet, I have yet to figure out how to convince her the gun safe has it covered.

The best approach I've come up with so far is, "I had to grab this one while I could. You just don't see them at that price, if you can find them at all". Occasionally it actually works, as it did with my 5" 27-2. (telling her that $279 for a $500 gun was too good to pass up).
On the other hand, I took my Son around today and showed him several to keep in mind as Christmas is just around the corner. I'd even let my Daughter and her Fiancee kick in if they wanted to contribute. You know, keeping the old man happy.

I find it very hard to find any used S&W N frames here at times. Chances are slim to none most of the time. I guess people are hanging on to the older S&W's, older Rugers and colts in 357mag. I just found a S&W M28 in 357mag w/4" barrel in blue. But they want $699 for it used. I just purchased 3 new S&W N frames for $699 each. Two in 41mag and 1 in 44mag. I need to go back and maybe look for a m27 thats priced to move too.

Oh, they know me well. The one store will let me do pretty much whatever I need to do. The others follow their own rules to the letter, so store number one usually wins.

There is a mathematical relationship between your last purchase, your wife's birthday or your son's car needing repair...and the appearance of your grail gun. As your cash reserves build back to healthy levels the drought appears. Then as life happens to everyone...the guns come crawling out of the woodwork.
Lay-a-way is our friend!
