1963 19-2
Good afternoon fellas. New member here, been reading for a while and looks like a great forum group. Picked up my first wheel gun a few months back on GB. Probably paid on the high side, $625, but what the heck, I've bought/dealt, happily, with the seller before, she looked sweet, was made the year I was born (that clinched the deal) .......... and I wanted it! Was looking at older model S&W .357 and .44 mags. and this one just bit me in the rear, as a keeper. Cleaned her, took to the range 50 rounds flawlessly down range. Impressed with accurracy too. Now I need a 29-2! The nickel finish is awesome, and I really like the feel and look of the smooth grips. I was told the nickel-pinned, dark front sight, and dark rear sight are original, or at least correct, to the gun? Let me know what you think of her.

Very nice early M-19. The blue sights a perfectly correct for that vintage.

Nice. Now get some Flitz and an old t-shirt and make that thing shine like it should.

Will do, thanks! What ammo do you guys like to shoot out these? I ran a box of Remington .357 125 grn. jsp. At around 25-30 ft. she was dead-on accurrate, center-mass of a silouette target, long as I did my part!
I can see I may "need" a few more of these, in different flavors.

I'd stay away from the hot 125 grain stuff b/c some of the K's have a problem w/a cracked forcing cone. From what I read it is safe to use 158 grain .357 & all manner of .38.
Beautiful gun!

It may have been a bit too much but, I don't know, I have a soft spot for Model 19s. I would have paid that for that gun without a second's thought, as long as it was in good shape mechanically. It looks like you have $150+ stocks on that gun. I think you did just fine. Congratulations on your purchase.

Welcome aboard - nice intro.
Stocks smooth targets.
I'd pay more for one in my birth year - and have...
158 grain bullets as noted and an additional nod to the Flitz - don't go crazy just a dab and some light pressure - you will be reposting pictures after you do

To all, thank you for the information, (like how valuable the wood grips are! ) nice comments , and warm welcome. I'll surely enjoy visiting this forum and learning more about S&W wheelguns. I'm very impressed with the fit, finish, and overall mechanical function of this revolver. Very smooth and balanced. Feels like the "Rolex-of-Revolvers"! U.S made wood & steel firearms - Got to love em. I enjoy the pictures you all have shared. Lots of great examples here.
Thanks again.

I don't think I've ever heard it described quite that way but you are absolutely correct!

I have a 19-2 with Diamonds as well. The finish is pristine and absolutely radiates. It is the nicest 19 I have ever seen and I often wonder why it seems to be so much nicer than the rest. I bought it here on the forum several years ago.

Very nice find and I dont think you paid too much .
The older Model 19 FS ramp was a seperate piece pinned to the barrel,
My guess is that it may have caused an issue with the nickel process,
After the ramp became integral with the barrel (about 1970) they began to nickel the whole assembly.
The rear site is always black unless its an early Model 66 or 67 in stainless.
