Default Looked 2 M-57s

Aloha,

Got a tip on 2 M-57s for sale on consignment at a LGS.

So, since it's the Wife's Birthday today and she was off, I took her to Breakfast. Told her what's up and she was nice enough to drive to the GS and Wait in the car(store has a lack of parking). I went in to look at the 2 guns.

One is a 6" nickel. Very tight lock up, no play at all. Hardly any turn line.
Gun was fired and not cleaned. Recessed but not pin visible, crane says 57 no dash.

Worst nickeled gun I have seen. Not peeling, but lots of pits and spots of rust peeping thru.

Would Not let me take grips off either gun.

Would be a great truck gun as is.

The other M-57 is a blue 8 3/8". Mechanically excellent. Again very tight
lock up with no play, More of cylinder line than the nickel. Little more than just visible. Pinned barrel and recessed cylinder

Again this gun was shot and put away dirty.

Finish was at least 75% or Better.

Asking $350 for each. Made an offer for both and was turned down. I expected that.

Story on the guns: Husband died. Wife went to gun store A and was told the guns are worth $500(Never tell a Woman that) of course she has that figure impressed on her brain. Then went to the LGS and put on consignment because they charge less commission. The boss talked her down to $350 each. Had to convince her that 41 is Not a popular caliber in Hawaii, plus the poor shape they were in. One of those brought in via pillow case situation. No box, papers or anything came with the 2 guns.

Several of the other guns sold immediately, but not these or the 586.

If they don't move locally, they'll end up on the internet guy sales for $400 each.

I didn't want them that Badly. If the 6" were blue in better shape I would have considered it, but not the shape the nickel i in.

Not really interested in an 8" gun.

So, if the guns show up on the internet and you're interested, make sure you get Lots of photos

I did leave my name and phone number if they get any more 41 mags.

AFAIK no local GS has Any 41 mag ammo of any kind for sale.

I would have taken both of them.

Probably would have cleaned up the nickel one and convert
it to a 2 3/8" RB snubby, then refinish it

Last weekend I saw two M57s at a local gun show. Both were in very good shape. One was 4 inch the other was the 8 inch. The guy wanted $800 each.

Aloha,

Honestly, in this town, you'd almost have to give them away(41 mags, that is) No one wants anything to do with them.

AFAIK, I'm about the Only one that really likes the 41.

The shelf in my gun safe is bending down from the weight of ALL the 57s and 58s on it.

If they were in much better shape, I probably would have paid the $620+ that the shop would go down to.

I have almost one of everything from the Mountain gun on up.
