USAF Model 15
Any opinions on that USAF marked 15 currently on Gunbroker ?, looks suspicious to me.

too nice looking
had the pleasure of hauling a revolver on many a mission on Combat Apple missions, and never saw any that looked that nice. And that was 40+ years ago.

It is of the proper configuration (target hammer/trigger), and the stamping looks similar to others I've seen. A good one to have a factory letter on as confirmation.

I have a real used Model 15-1 that is marked just "US". I was sure it was an US Army issue, but it did letter to the USAF at Warner Robbins.

Unless I was a "collector" I sure wouldn't pay anywhere near that price for a Mod 15....AF or no AF...........
Even then I would really have to want it bad!!!!!!!!!

Serial number puts it about 1965. I'm not sure that the AF was still taking delivery of M-15s at that time. I don't know the exact dates of the contract run but I think most of the AF M-15s were already in the inventory by 1965...........JMHO and I am no expert.

There were 5,000 dash 3 revolvers purchased by the Air Force and shipped to Warner Robbins in 1968. So, yes, the AF was buying them after 1965.
It has been a very long time, but I believe my issue gun, late in the war, was a dash 3, so it very likely was from that 1968 shipment.

Aircrews were shooting
Model 15s for qualification in the 60s. Don't remember if 2" or 4". Long time ago. Combat crews carried a lightweight .38, again I do not remember which one. I always carried one of my personal guns, so I didn't have to mess around checking the gun in and out. Long time ago, and did lots of things that you can't do today.

When we went on combat missions we were handed out something like a 2" victory. It was turned back in after mission because we did not have enough for everybody. The reason for this if having to shoot within plane it had lower penetration and less chance of piercing airframe. Boy! That was a lot of years ago and I hope my recollection is right. Air Police had model 15's.

When and where were you? I was over there late (1970-72) and we were carrying all sorts of different handguns. Some guys had personal weapons. I wish I had, but I didn't take anything over with me. My guns were all safely at my dad's house back in the World.

No way to be sure without seeing it, and a factory letter. It's a good fake if it isn't a real issue model 15.

I passed up a decent Mod.15 because the U.S.A.F mark looked suspiciously hand stamped. The letters were not perfectly lined up like they were done by machine.
But most I've seen since look that same way.
