19-2, have couple questions
There is a 19-2 2.5in snubby, and the seller ignored two requests from me that he remove the grips to see if they number to the pistol
The 19-2 was made from 1961 to 1967 so they should number,
am i correct? The serial number is K797071 which is 1968
so that confuses me. The grips are not diamonds and i believe all 19-2;s should have diamond grips
The response i received from the seller after i asked him if the grips number and if he removes them , is there a stamping on the frame that indicates a tripback to Smith?. His answer is "these are the grips that were on the gun when i got it."
I am not so well versed in determining if things are original or not , hence this thread
Any input will be greatly appreciatedThanks

The guy is a Clown. Don't buy from him. Obviously the numbers do not match, or he would have told you so. He is afraid of losing a sale, and that may well be what he did by being a moron. Pass, there are many 19-2's out there. Big Larry

Yes, stocks should number to it.
The "-3" was authorized in December, 1967 so there were still 19-2s shipped in 1968. Although it is a high number for a -2, I have seen higher; and have seen 19-3s in the K792's.
To me it looked like the rear sight leaf screw has been moved forward on this so it's a -2 with the -3 change.
Not all 19-2's have diamond stocks and none of the 2.5" ever did.
The diamonds were eliminated on all but target stocks starting in Oct, 1965 and the 2.5" version wasn't introduced until Aug, 66.
The diamonds on target stocks were eliminated in Dec, 67 and square butt Model 19-2's seen in the K720...~K789... range are usually seen without diamonds.

Is it the end of the world if the grips dont number?
If it's nice and a good price, buy it. If he is selling it in LNIB condition and priced as such, and wont give you the info, walk...
If it's a shooter grade gun, dont know what all the fuss is about.
Not that hard.

I must have misread the OP. I thought the question was about the stocks not having diamonds.
