Default 64-1 Year of Manufacture?

What is the birthday for a M 64-1 Serial No. 1D29xxx? I picked it up today at a LGS. Shot a little, carried a lot (some scratches & minor imperfections on the frame). Tight lockup, & the bore & cylinders are perfect.

The Supica book shows 1D29xxx serials at '76 to '77. Great gun. Shoot it and love it. Before you start another thread, yes, you can use +P ammo in it. Hope this helps

Much appreciated. Sitting next to my M 65-3, they look like twin sisters. Definitely a shooter, not a safe queen.

Default According to Roy G. Jenks

From a new member, and according to Roy G. Jinks, The History of Smith & Wesson, The 64-1 was originally designed for the Oklahoma Highway patrol. It was a variant of the Model 10, and serial numbers began September 1, 1970, starting with D224,001. Hope that was helpful.
