Default Again watched "The Gauntlet".....

and saw the 21/2" M66.
That was one of the early ones Clint was carrying as the first were for the feds. only.
Not until 1978 did they start to show up in any quantity, and were hard to get then.
I love that model!

Question

I think it was the 3in Mod.66 that was originally ordered and issued to Feds.

The 3" 686 was issued to US Customs, but I don't think any 3" 66s were bought for USG service. (Now someone will show a photo and letter! ).

That was surely the highlight of Clint's worst movie. And yes, even his worst is bad.

His 2.5 " Mod 66 has a Square butt....

Never seen a SB 2.5 " Mod 66 or 19.

Never say never with S&W.

Without a doubt one of Clints worst movies. The bus scene where the police are shooting at it from both sides of the street like a Chinese firing squad is laughable. To me his best police flick will always be the original
"Dirty Harry".

I was living in Phoenix when that movie was filmed. We went down to see some of it but frankly I don't remember seeing anyone I recognized. They kept the onlookers back a long ways. Fun to remember though.

Default the model 66 from the movie

One of the perks of SWCA membership - a few years ago Jim Supica of the NRA Museum brought a few "movie guns" to one of the regional gatherings, among which was the actual model 66 from The Gauntlet. Sorry for the lousy image.

Enjoy!

Nice picture but the one used in the movie was most positively a square butt.

I saw (again) part of River Wild a few nights ago (filmed here in MT) which really shows off a 2 1/2" 66; almost atart to finish. Meryll Streep finally pops Kevin Bacon with it at the end.
