I know what your thinkin punk..."Did he fire six shots or only five?....well in all this excitement I've lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, The most powerful handgun in the world.....You've got to ask yourself a question..."Do I feel lucky?"......Well do ya?.....Punk
I figure I have this gun narrowed down to '67-'68 vintage...If anyone with better expertise than I can give a more accurate idea I would appreciate it.

The ad where I found this was titled "Dirty Harry 44 Magnum", but I believe this one was "born" after the first movie's release. I don't know about yours, but mine has a trigger and action so sweet it's like butta...BUTTA! Good luck with yours!

Nope. 1967.
The classic grips known as "cokes" went out in 1965 and the Diamond targets, such as displayed on your 29-2, went away in 1968. There is a very narrow window for 29-2s correctly adorned with those grips. GREAT example!

For what it's worth S284567 Shipped June of 68 and S315946 shipped July of 69. We have come to deduce that by this time frame the serial number anomoly which had numbers shipping all over the place had settled down some. Guns pretty much shipped in serial number order. That being said I'd say late 68 to early 69 on yours. If the grips are original to the gun it would be one of the latest shipped guns we have seen to have Diamonds.

I have S2823xx that was shipped in early 68. It had diamond target grips that look like Walnut. That pretty much agrees with Curtis.

Based the serial number, I was estimate your revolver was shipped very late in 1968 or very early in 1969 and is one of the last 29-2s to be shipped with diamond target stocks.
I had a Model 57 with a serial number about S300000 and was shipped in January 1969 with diamond target stocks (the gun was new in the case) and accopanied by a case with a Styrofoam bottom and soft rubber top (like the case you have).

Thanks for all the interest guys Im happy to have all of your expert commentary on this fine 29 as it is my pride and joy. I had no previous reference points to deduce where this guns birthday stood from '67-'69. I've had the grips off recently but could find no indicators that they are numbered to the gun. But it was clear to me that these grips occupied that space for quite some time judging by the wood fiber that had tried to become one with the finish which I gently polished off to a beautiful sheen under the grips.
I found this gun in an unlikely place for what I thought was a modest price, and I didn't think twice. Now I'm glad I didn't.
Bill, I'm particularly honored to have your commentary on this one, I've been an admirer of your collection and wealth of knowledge of 29s (my favorite also) for some time now. Thank you
I've been seeing some recent feedback on the restoration expertice of Jcelect and I will be looking into having this box restored properly as I have always thought this gun deserves a better bed to rest upon.
Again thank you, glad you all enjoy the photoshoot.
