Drove my wife to a meeting and ended up with a 30-1
Wife needed to go to St Louis today for a meeting and since it is 5 hours each way from the house I told her I would drive her down. Had 6 hours to kill waiting for her so made the rounds of the LGS. Picked up this rather nice 30-1 in the box (paperwork & tools in the box) numbers matching box & grips. Do not believe it has been shot just handled some. Very faint ring on the cylinder and no other marks or wear. Interesting serial number 796795 would put it 1968? The luck I have been having driving her around lately, I may have to suggest we do this more often. One other shop had a showcase display of misc magazines for $10 a pop (H&K, S&W, Mauser, Colt, Winchester, etc). Yes I did buy a bag full.

Glad it found you! You must have some great mojo working!
If I'd found that gem, I'd probably have to sell it right away,
lest I take it out and shoot it. Really nice! Love that model!

That is a real nice find with the original box and goodies, congrats to you. I bought one just like it in 1998 (8170xx). It had eveything except the wax paper in the box plus a receipt from a store in Duluth for $75.71. I didn't get it for that price however.

srmyth: I did not get this one for $75.71 either. Paid $450 for the 30-1 and the owner threw in a nice set of RB K Frame grips, a well worn set of SB K Frame grips and a new take off set of Ruger Single Six grips.. Not a steal of a deal but worth it to me.

Congrats on a fine one. A model 30-1 was the first S&W I bought back in the 70s. It is gone now along with lots of others.

I really wish we still had a Model 30 or 31. They filled an important need: a small, lightweight, easily handled self-defense weapon for those who find a .38 in the J-frame a bit too much. Sadly, the .32s that have been produced in the last 10-15 years have been discontinued for the most part.
