Problem ejecting spent cases..
I have a 6 inch model 28 highway patrolman. The last two times I fired it I shot about 50 38 rounds, and when I loaded it with 357 rounds I had trouble ejecting the cases, the cases would come about 1/2 inch out and I would have to tap the ejector rod 2-3 times to eject the cases. I shoot more 38 rounds than 357 and never have problems ejecting 38 rounds,, only 357.
All the rounds I shoot are my own reloads and the gun was spotless clean before shooting..
Would appreciate any ideas on what the problem may be..

It sounds like you were getting a carbon build up in the charging holes. This is caused when you shoot the shorter 38 special ammo. A good of the charging holes, with a brass brush after shooting 38 special ammo should eliminate your problem.
Best of luck.

This would be a typical story for a .357 that had extra crud in the chambers after shooting the shorter .38 Specials, but if you are sure the chambers were very clean this is a mystery. Were the .357 loads hot?

No,, the rounds were loaded at the minimum, I don't shoot hot loads for just plinking rounds at cans.

Any 38 rounds will deposit residue at the length of the 38 case, about 1/10" less than your 357 shell. The more you shoot the more that builds up and you will often not even be able to chamber a 357 round because of it. You need to clean, and that sometimes includes having to scrape the insides of the chambers to clean out the 38 crud. Clymer reamers even makes a chamber reamer called the "De-leader" for just this purpose. When I used to help out training shooting classes for Deputy Sheriff's, 9 out of 10 couldn't chamber a 357 as they had shot mostly 38's for training and qualifications. I used to clean chambers in a dozen guns every class.

Based on what you said, (the cases stick 1/2" into the ejection), the problem is likely not the ring left behind by .38 rounds. Check for scratch marks on the expanded part of the extracted cases, perhaps there is a burr on the edge of the chambers. If this is the case, a very careful clean up with a fine round stone or swiss file may be in order.
Hope this helps,
Steve
