Heck of a way to start an S&W collection. Nice revolver, I guess the Block is OK too.

Nope, They are extremely reliable, accurate, well made firearms and the standard by which all other striker fired handguns are judged by. Their ergonomics aren't quite up to M&P standards though.

Oh yeah. That 29-2 is what I would have gotten if it were available. Instead, I got a model 27-9 that looks similar. That's a good start with S&W.

thanks love S&W wheelguns, they are truly a work of art, only negative is the ammo for this is expensive. I purchased 20 rounds of magtech 200 grain hollow points for 39.95, at least I could save the brass for reloading. I ordered some dies and a 310 grain lee mold for natchez

If its your first dance with a .44 you might want to think about starting out with .44 specials before you let fly with full house .44 mags, its a bit different than smaller handguns. Learn the gun before you pick up any bad habits with full house loads. Not many of us are Elmer Kieth or Skeeter Skelton out of the box. I'm still not there after 40 years of shooting hand cannons. Just say'n

Would like to try both , but you are right , won't shoot hot loads till I'm more comfortable, ok maybe a few but I'm having trouble finding any 44 brass right now. If anyone could direct me to some it be much appreciated. seen some on Amazon for 49.00 and some change for 100 new Winchester cases of 44 mag, is this a decent price?

Hello bxchef.
Congratulations on your first S&W revolver. It's a
beautiful gun.
I got my first S&W revolver, (a 6 inch K-22) , in 1957. I still
have it.
I hope you still have your Model 29, 56 years from now and
enjoy it as much as I do my 22.

I would try the rubber grips from Hogue that come on a lot of factory S&W revolvers these days. If you are not used to recoil and muzzle flip, this gun could be intimidating with full-house .44 Magnum loads. You might want to start out with some .44 Special ammo, the cowboy action shooting loads are easy on the shooter.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I have houges on my gp 100 and they help minimize recoil. you thing 310 grains loaded light in 44 mag will be ok? cause I ordered a 310 grain mold to make bullets.(only one they had)

You definitely made a good start...
....with the S&W. And the Glocks can't be TOO bad. LEOs across the country have been using them for over 20 years so I guess they've got something going for them.
Seriously, it was brilliant of Glock to practically give away the guns to Police Departments the same way Apple put computers in schools. One would have to mess up really bad to spoil the success potential of such corporate moves.

As others have said..you'll definitely take notice when you light that 29 off, the .44 mag is a fairly impressive round. The longer barrel will help with the recoil some, but you will still notice it. It is an N frame pistol, and a very nice one from the looks of it, nice purchase! If you decide you don't care for those grips, I have a brand new Hougue Monogrip that I'd be happy to trade you

I recently picked up some "once fired" brass on Gunbrokers for a good price. I've also bought some off some local forums, even this forum where I picked up 500. I can PM you a link of a guy with 200 rds of brand new brass for sale at a good price.
