Default 64-2 Snubbie

Not sure if this belongs here but my FFL just received the transfer on a Model 64 and I'm waiting out my 3-day "don't-do-anything-stupid" period.

I'll post the serial number when I have the gun in hand to verify date (the barrel IS pinned). This post is to enquire about the grips. They're pretty unique (I've scoured Google images for similar ones and have found nothing). Anyone recognize them? Are they custom? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Hopefully this link will work - can't upload the photo since i dont have an album yet.

Those grips are not factory issue, they're aftermarket. Nice pinned 64-2 you have there. Here's my non pinned 64-2 with Grashorn grips.
Your grips don't look like anything Spegel to me.

ACP230 I believe you are right. Thanks so much! Interesting that there's no logo/mark to identify them. Here's a post to confirm (3rd one down):

Grips - K-frame: Ahrends/Hogue/Altamont - J-frame: Herrett

Again, I'll post a serial number when I get it.

I have the same grips on a snub RB 66. Believe they're called 'Shooting Ace,' a less expensive non-custom line by Herrett's, which tend to be pricey. Their grips used to come with a small white sticker on the inside surface ID'ing the model. This is model RKR. Herrett's grips are normally much lighter in weight than some other firms's which I find appealing.

I came "this" close to bidding on that one. You got a good deal.

Nice find (not too bad a price either). I love the 64-2. You probably already know that the pinned barrel places it between 1977 and 1981. I have a '79 that is more fun to shoot than anything! Enjoy.

Those barrels look very short, almost out of proportion to the rest of the gun.

Default 64-2

Thanks for the ID on the grips. Also thanks for all the compliments on a good find. From looking at other auction sites I can see that what I paid was pretty much the going rate (including the transfer fees - both of them!). I was worried since this is my first S&W revolver.

I agree. The 2" barrels look just right on a J-frame, but almost too small on the K.
