Default model 67 38 combat masterpiece

Hey there.

I just joined this forum for your expert advise on this S&W! I figured if I wanted an accurate value, I hope this would be the right place!

I have a S&W 67 no dash 38 Combat Masterpiece. My great grandfather purchased it, he died. My grandfather inherited it, he died. My dad inherited it, still alive but now I have it.

I am trying to find the value of this gun. I am finding prices all over the place. I can't seem to find a comparable gun for sale to compare it to. I figured I would try here!

From what I know.... My great grandfather bought it and a box of cartridges and shot it, he placed it in his dresser and thats where it stayed. It hasn't been shot by anyone else. We are pretty sure that the box of S&W 38's with 12 missing is the box he purchased with the gun. Here are a few pics. It is in the original box with papers, I wish I could have found a receipt with it! It was loaded with 6 cartridges from the box. I believe it has had the same ctgs in it since it was purchased and shot! I have pics of the serial number that matches the number on the box. I just really didn't think it was a good idea to post them.

Let me know if you can help with a value!

thank you

$475-$525 on the high side is likely in my opinion, but with its history it should be priceless to you.

I bought this one 1-2 months ago...a '72/'73 vintage no dash 67 and paid $350 for it. No box and documents, hardly fired. Yours should go at least $500, likely a bit more. But why would you wish to part with it?

You have what is basically a made for a short period of time being a no dash with the stainless steel rear sight. S&W launched the revolver with these sights and started getting complaints that it was hard to see the front sight as they all looked the same because they were all stainless. The -1 doesn't mention the sight change because it happened during the run of no dash revolvers.

That said because it's a 38 special revolver they don't bring huge premiums because most buyers want a 357 magnum that also shoots 38 special so I'm thinking with the entire package $550 tops. Prices are crazy right now but not so much for this revolver. It's a family gun so maybe it should stay in your family.

Here's mine and it's a complete package and I paid $500 for it

well its not that I want to sell it....just wanted to know the value. However, My dad and his dad and his dad weren't not that close. So there isn't much sentimental value. My dad has always wanted a luger. Really just a shooter, Not a collectors piece. A stainless luger would even be fine... I was thinking of trying to trade this to get it.

Wow, a 4 generation firearm. Even if no one was close, I'd still consider it a family heirloom. It's definitely a beautiful gun but it's too bad it doesn't have the monetary value. I guess it goes to show us that even with some significant age, a piece may not necessarily be as collectible as you'd expect.

I bought one just like it last Fall off of a local internet gun site for $350. It included the box, papers and 2 boxes of ammo, minus the 12 that were reportedly the only rounds put thru it. My local gun shop has 2 used ones in the case (both with boxes) and they are listed for $600 and $650.

I have my FIL's Luger captured during WWII, and my great-great Uncle's shotgun kept under the counter in his blacksmith shop. Did'nt get along with the former and didn't know the latter, but the history of the 2 are enough that I won't ever sell either. They will go to my son.

PS - they didn't make SS Lugers. If you found one that was nickle plated, it would have no collector value and be worth less than the one you have.

I agree with $450-$500 tops. I just bought one just like yours w/o box for $365 this week. S/n 5Kxxxx with SS rear sights. Box and tools/ literature add $100 tops. ($50-$75 more realistic)That brings it to $415 -$465.
But I will add to some others comments..Why would you want to sell it if it has been in the family so long? This is a classic revolver that is worth way more than you can get for it in $$. They don't make these anymore. To me they are priceless if they are a family heirloom. A pawn shop might give you $150 for it. A gun shop might pay you $200. If you sell it here you might get $450. I hope your family history is worth more than that.
The one I bought yesterday:

thanks for all the help! Yeah I knew it wasn't going to be worth a bunch! Based on the value, I will probably keep this and just keep my eyes open for a cash deal on a luger. The odds of someone having a luger that wants to take partial trade on this are probably pretty slim anyway

ps the stainless lugers would be the mitchell arms and the stoeger ones made in the usa

I guess it depends where you live. Here $500-$550 is realistic. Maybe not in Ohio, but here it would. I got a 67 with serial 3K79XXX from a private seller for $350 plus $15 transfer fee...no box/docs/tools. At a gun store that would have been priced at $450.
