Smith & Wesson Model 35 Grips
Hi guys, Fred here and I'm kinda new, so please bear with me. I just bought a sweet Model 35 and it has a set of Herrett Traget Grips on it that I just need to get rid of. (Make somebody a smokin' deal?). I know it's a challenge, but I'd love to find a set of original "magna" grips, or something very similar to buy for it. I don't mind refinishing a set as long as they're not all chipped up. Anybody got an idea? Will J frames fit it? Thanks in advance for any help.

J frame
Hey fred
Welcome aboard, hang on for an amazing ride! Pease don't blame us when you get addicted to S&Ws! ? ! ? ! ?
Your mod 35 is a J frame gun so any SB J frame grips will fit. You might want to try the J frame target grips which will fit a RB or SB gun.

You first need to find out when the gun was made via the serial number.
They may be diamond centered grips.

S&W Model 35 Grips
Thanks for the info guys. It's a great start. I used to collect Rugers, but a friend of mine got me started on S&W's. Anyway, where do I go to check the serial number? Also, what is meant by RB and SB guns? Guess I better take some kind of on-line S&W course and get educated.
Thanks

Serial number will be on the bottom of the grip frame. Include any letter pre fix like M maybe or J. You can use XXs for the last two digits if your concerned about someone knowing the whole serial number.
SB means square butt grip frame and RB mean round butt grip frame.
Welcome aboard, you'll learn fast here.

Your at the best place in the world to learn about S&Ws! Just read and ask questions. All of us have been where you are at in this hobby and WE are willing to share! An excellent book to get started with is, "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica and Rick Nahas" You could probably find it on Amazon.
Good luck, jcelect

Smith & Wesson 35 Grips
This is gettin' good! I NEVER had this cooperation with Rugers. Anyway, if this helps, she's a 35-1, and the serial number on the bottom of the frame is: (No letters) 133554. Guess I mainly need to know if a J frame grip will fit. And yes, a close friend of mine keeps insisting I need to buy the book. He's tired of answering all my questions.
Thanks for all your help.

Based on several serial numbers close to yours, it probably shipped in mid 1969. This would suggest that the grips on your 35-1 would NOT have had the diamond center. This will make it easier to find a set. Should be J frame sq butt non diamond centered grips.

Pastor Fred.. great group here. I don't think I have an extra set of SB but plenty of RB. If you need RB grips I have plenty and will trade you for your set of Herretts.

Smith & Wesson Model 35 grips
Thanks for the offer on the round butts, but looks like I need the SB's. I'd be easy on the Harrett's if you're really interested. I just like the original look on these Smiths. I just got a message that said I probably should be looking for a set of "Modified Magna's". I'm looking? ? ? ? ? ? If you're interested in the Harrett's you could email me at: " [email protected]"
and we can make it happen.
Thanks so much,
Fred

Model 35 grips
Hi Mike,
Fred here. Say, do you still have a nice set of J frame RB's you'd be interested in trading for the Harrett Target grips from my Model 35? If so, I'd be interested. I'm hoping to end up at some point with a RB J frame.
Thanks,
Fred

Fred I have PM'd you with my address etc. Check yours. Buying and selling are only done in that section of the forum Want to Buy/Sell...or through private messages and emails etc.
